7-2 WINNER ON THE ALL-WEATHER: The heavy ground caused the abandonment of Huntingdon and Ffos Las yesterday. Only Kempton AW went ahead but Daqman maintained his winner-a-day reputation with an overall profit through Liseo (WON 7-2).

HORSES TO FOLLOW: Daqman today highlights the ground conditions required by his Fortune Cookies, horses to follow for the Jumps in 2024.

2024 NH FORTUNE COOKIES

THE Hewick dilemma. That’s what they’re calling planning difficulties for the big-race scene in this wet, wet winter.

Trainer Shark Hanlon thinks his King George winner could beat Galopin des Champs in the Gold Cup on good ground, which would open up the Grand National, too.

But his 9yo pocket dynamo wouldn’t cope with both and continued soft-heavy ground in the Spring could direct him to a lesser season. Hanlon is not alone in having to deal with ground priorities.

Daqman’s first horses to follow list of 2024 names horses from aged 4 to 11, with their record in chase or hurdle, their optimum distance and, crucially, the going they’ve won on.

HILL TO CLIMB AGAIN

⭕ 3.28 Hereford Any further rain certainly won’t inconvenience Hill Of Tara who has won three of his four races this season and escapes a penalty for his Haydock win last week in heavy ground.

Normally I would be concerned about a quick appearance after a heavy ground win but he seemed to have an easy time out, making all the running and winning unchallenged – so you can understand Venetia Williams striking whilst the iron is hot.

The stable certainly couldn’t be in better form with seven winners from their last 28 runners.

The handicapper can’t have got a Christmas card from Mactavish – he was put up a harsh 12lb for winning twice here over a shorter trip and has gone up again (3lb) since his most recent third at Taunton. That’s now quite an anchor.

MART CAN MIX IT HERE

⭕ 3.58 Hereford Martalmix’jac can gain reward for his recent consistency in a big field handicap where many of his rivals are struggling for form.

Martalmix’jac was a good ground Stratford winner in October but seems equally at home with give in the ground and his two recent silver medals at Ludlow look solid enough form – in the most recent race he was ridden by today’s pilot Murray Dodd.

Venetia Williams has another runner here in with a strong chance. This time with Natty Night who remains potentially well handicapped.

His most recent race at Exeter last month is probably best forgotten from a form perspective but remembered from a temperament point of view. He virtually refused to race that day and wasn’t in the best of moods before consenting to make late progress.

LADY IN WAITING

⭕ 6.10 Newcastle Lady In Havana rightly heads the Betdaq Betting Exchange market here in my opinion.

The David Loughnane trained runner remains progressive and has taken to the all-weather better than the turf with form figures of 712. She was no match for Rusheen Boy last time out but the winner came out to win again since to give the form a boost.

Off her current mark of 60 I think the grey can still be competitive and she is taken to get the better of Warming (well beaten in first three starts, now handicapping off a mark that looks quite high) and Wren Officer (dropping in weights but stable are quiet).

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
