PREVIEW
Both Marin Cilic and Andy Murray made Wimbledon history in their third-round matches at the All England Club on Saturday. Croatian Cilic was involved in a five set, five and a half hour marathon battle against Sam Querrey that had three tie breaks and was eventually concluded 17-15 in the final set. It was the second longest match in Wimbledon history.

Leading British hope Andy Murray overcame a battle of his own against wily Cypriot Marco Baghdatis in a match that wasn’t finished until 11.02 pm under the Wimbledon roof. It was the latest ever finish in South London. Murray admitted afterwards he would have to play better tennis if he was to land a maiden Grand Slam and observers were left bewildered as Murray was twice docked a point for letting a ball slip out of his pocket onto the court mid game.

The weather is threatening to cause major disruption for the second week and as Court One has no roof the matches could be very stop-start affairs. Cilic confessed that his epic win had been physically and mentally draining and Murray had heavy strapping on his knees for the conclusion of his match. He stressed it was just a precaution though and should feel fresher than his opponent.

Now that Rafael Nadal has been knocked out Murray’s route to the final has got a lot easier but Cilic is a powerful player on an eight-match unbeaten grass run. However, one of those wins was in the Queens Final where his opponent, David Nalbandian, who was leading at the time, was disqualified. Cilic has never got past the fourth-round in five previous visits to Wimbledon and has only beaten Murray once in six encounters.

Murray has dropped a set in his last two games and Cilic has only twice failed to take a set off Murray when they have played previously. The Scotsman should win and the 3-1 score appeals at 3.4 on BETDAQ.
