8.0 ABOUT EVEN-MONEY NAP: Punters know by now that offers about a horse are invariably bigger on BETDAQ but not everyone follows the race and spots more value in running. Yesterday’s winning nap, Golden Maverick, got behind and was offered at 8.0 before galloping round the field to score going away.
WON 1-1 GOLDEN MAVERICK (Friday nap) profit on the day: 8.50
WON 6-1 MENG TIAN (Thursday) profit on the day: 5.20 points
DAQMAN LEADS PRICEWISE 7-3: Daqman has two strong selections today, including a supernap, but he also fancies a bit each way on 19.5 and 22.0 outsiders. The value-challenge score is Daqman 7, Pricewise 3.
PEARL PICK IN CHEEKPIECES
⭕ 2.05 Kempton (Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes) Nazeef for John Gosden went straight from winning this to taking a Group 2 at Royal Ascot, so keep an eye open for a decent result, though this year’s field is fairly well exposed.
Joseph O’Brien travels Adelaise over; third on her first appearance last May and also straight to Royal Ascot, unluckily short of room so only fourth in one of the big handicaps.
One of two five-year-olds, she is still a ‘nearly horse’, similar to Julia Augusta, a CD winner but beaten by Choisya in November, though in receipt of 4lb.
Many Tears improved 23lb for Ger Lyons, with two wins out of three since October. Switches to the James Ferguson yard, after being sold for 300,000gns, so this race is a big one for Cunningham Thoroughbreds, the new owners.
How will Mystic Pearl, fit from Group 2 at Meydan, respond to a drop in class and the application of cheekpieces?
She won a mile Listed at Sandown in the summer and went close in a Deauville Group 3. With William Haggas on 50% (3-6), Mystic Pearl had the value edge at 7.0 on BETDAQ this morning .
ONE-STALL BOOST FOR INTINSO
⭕ 2.40 Kempton (Rosebery Handicap) Punters looking for the draw trends to be repeated here, will want to be on Intinso.
The usual bogey one-stall is a Rosebery bonus, with the result by draw in four of the last seven seasons: gates 1, 1, 1, 1, with three other low draws, 2 (twice) and 3, in the frame in three of those years.
John and Thady Gosden have had winners at Lingfield, Newcastle and Wolverhampton in the last fortnight, and they could complete an AW-track five-timer today with Intinso in this race and Orne (3.30) at Chelmsford.
Robert Havlin rides Orne, as ever; together they’ve won a Group 3 and been placed in two Listeds.
Hollie Doyle is on Intinso, a winning partnership at Wolver just three weeks back, going clear of three other winners, first run after gelding.
We’re in the same grade today, up 8lb but, according to the stats, with that advantage of the one-stall and over a furlong shorter.
Old Harrovian (stall 5) returns after almost a year off, winning two class-5 novices after gelding but out of his depth in a Group 3 at Newbury and then given a long holiday.
Cemhaan likes this track but is 10lb and one grade higher since he won here last May, and has to give weight all round.
The Godolphin cast-off Cannon Rock, a low-level winner the last day at Southwell, and William Buick’s mount, Duc De Kent, are well drawn.
I would have a tad each way on Duc De Kent, hampered behind Intinso at Wolverhampton last month.
Betdaq Betting Exchange 4.2 Intinso, 19.5 Duc De Kent
SPLENDENT GALLOPS ALL DAY
⭕ 3.15 Kempton (Queen’s Prize) Kieran Shoemark, who has won this twice in the last six seasons, is well drawn in 4 on Splendent (22.0 on BETDAQ this morning).
The stats reveal that 8-10 winners in the decade have been drawn 1, 2 (twice), 3 (three times) and 5 (twice).
Novel Legend (5), who scored at Goodwood in the autumn, is clearly laid out for this, a winner here on the reappearance last March, but 6.7 on BETDAQ as I write.
Spirit Mixer (2), second in the 2022 Northumberland Plate, has had two long breaks, so something has clearly been amiss. Down the field on his return the first day of March.
The one stall puts Circuit Breaker in the frame. Winner first time out and here at Kempton after a break, and the mount of James Doyle.
But 4.9 offers are a bit mean for me, as I find Jonjo O’Neill winners hard to trap; he’s just had 3-23 short-odds-only strikes in small fields.
Roger Charlton has won this race twice in six seasons, including with today’s contender, Sleeping Lion (stall 3), who is now a bit long in the tooth at age 9.
Back to Splendent and over to Frankie Dettori, who won on him here at Kempton over 1m 4f and, on dismounting, declared: he gallops all day.
CAPULET TAKEN TO MAKE ALL
⭕ 3.30 Chelmsford (The Road to the Kentucky Derby) I don’t usually mention sponsors but if you haven’t tasted the Kentucky bourbon, Woodford Reserve, you haven’t lived.
Last year’s winner took a race at Keeneland, not the Derby, a Grade 3, but the Chelmsford heat has a quality colt in the field today in Capulet, who has Guineas and Derby on the agenda.
Capulet’s dam is sister to Derby winner Serpentine, and Capulet takes after him; she likes to lead and will be hard to catch here under Ryan Moore.
Cuban Tiger had Orne in third in a Newcastle Listed in March, and any improvement from Orne would be down to cheekpieces first time today.
