MATCH OVERVIEW:
The T20 World Cup hits top gear on Monday with the first full member clash on Betdaq Betting Exchange. It’s brilliant that the ICC has allowed more teams to compete at the World Cup this time around, but it does gives us a lot of miss-matches. For example, West Indies were trading 1.01 to beat Papua New Guinea in the first afternoon game on Sunday. This will be a lot more competitive, and it should give us a good guide as to where the teams stand. With India, Australia and England coming into the tournament as the big three with the favourites tag, South Africa are under a lot less pressure. As we know from years gone by, historically South Africa teams don’t deal with pressure well.
Sri Lanka are a shell of what they used to be. They have never covered from losing Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Lasith Malinga even though that’s been many years go now. They have the ability to cause a few surprise results, but it terms of actually winning the tournament it’s very unlikely. Their batting is a huge weak point, and their bowlers will have to do all of the work if they are going to be successful. It’s important to remember that a loss here wouldn’t be the end of the world for either side – they are in a group with Bangladesh, Nepal and Netherlands. Bangladesh have been in very poor form, even losing to USA twice, coming into the tournament.
South Africa are the opposite of Sri Lanka in the sense that their batting is their strong point, and their bowlers can go around the park. Obviously if they are going to have a chance of winning the tournament, their bowlers need to perform. Their stars didn’t exactly have a good IPL, but they have the talent and as I said above, they don’t have any pressure on their shoulders this time around.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This will be the first World Cup fixture in New York, and it’s a no brainer to go into this game with an open mind on scoring. This stadium was effective made from scratch for this World Cup. Some of the ticket prices were incredible; it will be interesting to see what kind of crowd we get. The ICC have obviously put a lot of money behind cricket in America, and the fixtures in New York will (should) be the showpiece. Scoring wise, with only one warm-up game, and it’s hard to read into that as well, we have no ground data here.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Sri Lanka look like a team to take on at this tournament, and you wouldn’t be surprised if the Netherlands or Nepal could shock them later in the tournament. I feel this game lines up ideally for South Africa as their weak point is their bowling but we do have a very limited Sri Lankan batting line-up. With this being the first competitive game here, I’m very happy to keep stakes low but South Africa at 1.5 looks like a very nice position. Their batting should win the game here.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
As I mentioned above, this stadium was built for the World Cup so we don’t have any ground data here. It’s impossible to form a good in-running strategy with no ground data – who knows whether it will be an edge to bat or bowl first. I would guess the side who wins the toss will bowl first because that’s generally what sides do when they don’t know what to expect. It will be interesting to see the market moves without any ground data, a par score could be 200+!
