DAQMAN BAGS 5-1 FRENCH DERBY WIN: Gritting his teeth from a 6-1 third (Derby) and a 7-1 second (Oaks) at Epsom, Daqman finally bagged his weekend Classic in the French Derby at Chantilly yesterday, with a bull’s-eye bet on 5-1 Look De Vega (ridden by Ronan Thomas), napping James Doyle there on the two-year-old winner, Francisco’s Pie.

🇫🇷 LOOK at this one go: 3, 4, 2, 1. That’s not a countdown error, it’s the order in by stall of the French Derby at Chantilly yesterday.
Despite heavy ground, the son of a French Derby winner, grandson of an English and Irish Derby winner, Look De Vega was as powerful as Ace Impact last year in pulverising the field.
First Look came out of the pack late on, bettering his shorter-priced Andre Fabre stablemate, Sosie, who faded, though did not backpedal in the manner of Ballydoyle’s Diego Velazquez, who was always handily placed despite an 11 draw, but gave up a narrow lead in the final furlong and a half to finish 8th.
Look De Vega and First Look are both sons of Lope De Vega, himself a French Derby hero, but the winning colt with that Look of a champion is out of a mare by High Chaparral, a dual Derby winner in England and Ireland.
Ghostwriter ran a solid race, fourth for Clive Cox, and Yorkshire-based Adrian Paul Keatley won the Listed two-year-old test, when James Doyle sent the favourite, Francisco’s Piece, clear in a 1-2-3 for the English from Convo (Amy Murphy) and Kaadi (Karl Burke).
GG LOOKS THE ANSWER
⭕ 6.15 Windsor Little form to go on here so I am keeping stakes low but I didn’t want to miss the reappearance of Gutsy Girl who went into my notebook when winning at Carlisle last year.
She ran with some promise on her debut at Ascot where she was pitched in quite deep but came on bundles to win well at Carlisle – benefitting from the drop in class and the switch to quicker conditions which she gets again tonight.
The stable clearly think a lot of her as she holds an entry for the Commonwealth Cup so will not only need to win this but win it well for those dreams to continue. She’s currently around 66/1 in that ante-post market.
Sir Michael Stoute’s Red Pixie heads the market tonight but doesn’t look a world beater. She was third at Yarmouth last time out in a race where the winner Run Away failed to frank the form in better company at Doncaster next time out.
YAZA OUR MAN FOR THE HAT-TRICK
⭕ 8.00 Wetherby Decent sized fields for tonight’s flat card at Wetherby where they are racing on good to soft ground.
Yazaman is taken to complete his hat-trick for the in-form stable of Paul Midgley who has sent out five winners from his last 22 runners.
Yazaman comes into this as a winner without a penalty as his Beverley win last week came in an apprentice race.
He extricated himself from a crowded position that day to win, in the end, quite well and was probably value for a lot more than the official three quarters of a length official margin.
A similar effort on ground he enjoys should prove good enough in a race where the main danger on DAQMAN’S 1-2-3 at Betdaq Betting Exchange looks to be Granny B who won on similar ground last year and ran a solid race on the all-weather at Wolverhampton last time out.
The only downside with her is that she can throw in a poor run and on pure handicapping will need to bring her A Game to the table here.
AS CLEAR AS MUJID
⭕ 8.15 Windsor A wide open handicap in which I’ll take a chance with Mujid who last won here off a mark 2lb higher than what he races off tonight.
Hollie Doyle takes over in the saddle for the first time out and might be able to eke out some improvement as he is usually apprentice ridden.
It’s trappy but there are question marks over Dee’s Dream (beaten 15 lengths at Bath last time out) and Damoiseau (still a maiden after 17 starts) and this pair are unfathomably shorter in the Betdaq market.
