CRACKSKING FOR THE NAPS KING!
⭕ 3.57 Nottingham Dreams Adozen was leading at this trip when fading on soft in a two-miler at Chester. The winner, Animato, dropped out this morning, refusing Dreams revenge bid over this shorter race on firmish ground.
Watch your bets: a total of nine were withdrawn early from this card, and there could be more as the ground firms up.
Graham’s dam was a Group-3 winner at today’s distance, but it’s first time for him over 1m 6f and he can’t allow the Johnston runner to get away, as so often happens. Betdaq Betting Exchange 7.0 Dreams Adozen, saver Graham
⭕ 4.27 Nottingham Richard Hannon, who trains Graham, is usually here for this mile–plus handicap, recording 3-3 over the last four seasons.
Phoenix Passion goes for a hat-trick and Baynoona was not disgraced on debut by Pretty Crystal, the subsequent Nell Gwyn winner.
But Show Biz Kid’s sire gets firm–ground performers and he made an ideal start at Epsom before a heavy surface the last day stopped his progress.
⭕ 8.15 Kempton Cracksking has been out of the first three only when the going is soft. An eye opener on the gallops recently and steps back up in trip after failing by only a neck at Newbury, giving 3lb to a useful son of Frankel. Nap.
A SEAT AT THE CLASSICS TABLE?
⭕ 4.50 Curragh Start now assessing two-year-olds as they run, their make-up, their action and their breeding.
Five of the six winners of this 7f maiden achieved a rating of between 105 and 117 in careers worth following. All scored in this first time out.
I shall be surprised if this year’s winner is not either Swagman, sired by Wootton Bassett who was responsible for last year’s winner, or Drivers Seat (Sea The Stars out of a half-sister to Sixties Icon).
So get yourself in the driver’s seat where young horses are concerned; you may be watching a champion in the making.
Hotazhell was the money horse this morning, son of Too Darn Hot, who has sired the winner of two Classics this season see my table yesterday).
He’s a bit short priced against the Ballydoyle contingent but note that trainer Jessica Harrington has laid out plans for a double with Saturn in the Race To The Ebor.
⭕ 5.20 Curragh More two-year-olds to check out. Zambales is interesting. His sire, Pinatubo, won six races in a row as a juvenile, including the National Stakes and the Dewhurst. Odds on for the Guineas but run down by Kameko (2020).
Pinatubo has been no great shakes at stud but Zambales is the first foal of an Oasis Dream mare, and this might be the mix they’ve been looking for!
⭕ 6.25 Curragh The grey filly, Majestic Beauty, who has plied her trade in Group races, is making her handicap debut as the only runner in the race sure to love the top of the ground. BETDAQ value 8.6.
EBOR IN THE STARS FOR SATURN
⭕ 7.00 Curragh (Race To The Ebor) Willie Mullins (2), Johnny Murtagh (2), Gordon Elliott, Ger Lyons and Tony Martin have all won the Ebor for Ireland: that’s a 50% strike rate since the invasion began in 2009, though a certain Aidan O’Brien had scored way back.
Shanroe, first winner of this test for free entry at York, was fourth in the 2021 Ebor but, though not a direct guide to the result on the Knavesmire, the form of this race and, collaterally, of Shanroe probably helped Johnny Murtagh, win that Ebor with Sonnyboyliston.
The next Race To The Ebor winner, Earl Of Tyrone, was third at York, within a length of taking the 2022 Ebor.
Today’s field sees Fairytale Princess hiked 11lb for a decisive win first time over the 1m 6f of this course, but the presence of Serious Challenge and Tyson Fury off 10st keeps her on a winnable weight.
Saturn and Star Harbour were third and fourth over 1m 2f on good ground here, both suggesting a longer trip would be beneficial. In fact, Jessica Harrington says of Saturn ‘this is right up his street,’ and the money was down this morning.
Burren Song took a hat-trick into this race last year and was third, having risen a stone overall. Runs off the same mark and has prepped over hurdles but most of Ciaran Murphy’s horses have been starting at wild prices, 20-1, 33-1, 40-1 twice and 66-1, completely unfancied.
