STORY OF FRANKEL REVISITED

JUST like her dad! Bedtime Story went to the front at Royal Ascot yesterday and ran further and further clear of her field.

For the 1min 27sec of the seven-furlong Chesham Stakes yesterday, the daughter of Frankel WAS Frankel.

Despite her maiden success and smooth work at home, nothing could prepare connections for her scintillating victory. It was reported of jockey Ryan Moore: ‘He didn’t have to touch her; she’s unreal.’

Frankel used to gallop clear, quite unconcerned by proceedings, as though the day was made for him. It was. Fourteen times in a row. And there could be many similar days ahead before his daughter’s Story is complete.

How far Bedtime Story might go is pure speculation, but the same stable’s Fairy Godmother, made 1,000 Guineas favourite after scoring on Friday, lost that pole position within 24 hours to the nine-lengths-plus Chesham eclipse.

The last race also saw a sensation, this one not by an Aidan O’Brien filly but by his son Joseph’s Galileo gelding Uxmal.

That Uxmal was exceptional as he cruised clear in the 2m 5f+ Queen Alexandra was brought home to me by the head-on view of the final furlong.

Uxmal finished dead straight – not a nostril, not an ear was out of line – as his rivals rolled around, tired and beaten.

Pure quality and racing prowess at the opposite ends of the spectrum, sprint and marathon, will ensure that the family O’Brien – and punters searching for Fortune Cookies – have champions to follow.

🗓️ TOMORROW AND TUESDAY: It’s what punters crave, but they also need structure to their regular betting and I shall talk about that tomorrow, followed on Tuesday by the Fortune Cookies update and later in the week Sunday’s Irish Derby ABC guide.

NAP LOOKS A STAR

⭕ 3.00 Pontefract (Pontefract Castle Fillies’ Stakes Listed Race) As you would expect after the five days of the Royal Ascot feast, flat racing takes a drop down the class ladder on Sunday with the notable exception of this fillies Listed contest at Pontefract where a field of 11 tackle the one and a half miles on good to firm ground.

The official ratings and Betdaq Betting Exchange point towards the Ralph Beckett trained River Of Stars who won the Group 3 Bronte Cup on good to firm ground at York last season and ran well in the renewal of the same race last month when third to Term Of Endearment. It was run on contrasting good to soft groundthis year.

The Beckett stable are fresh from a couple of winners at Royal Ascot and should land this too on what is effectively a class drop for River Of Stars.

Scenic (with a considerable dollop of hindsight) was probably an amazing bet at 8/11 when winning a lowly class 5 at Kempton last month but then found life tougher when sixth in a Haydock Group 3. The balance of her form suggests she has something to find.

The same goes for Divine Grace who has placed efforts in class 2 and 3 races recently but this is another step up the ladder.

MY KIND OF THINKING

⭕ 3.30 Pontefract Trooper Bisdee has a very obvious chance for Sir Mark Prescott but at around even money that tells you that anyway.

I probably want to be on a Sir Mark trained runner at 9/4 when it’s backed into evens rather than go in at that lower level.

He’s up in trip but won nicely at Nottingham last time and I don’t think the 5lb hike or extra distance will stop him.

However, on value grounds alone Yorkindness is interesting in opposition.

I’ve mentioned before about Pontefract being a horses for courses track as it’s quite idiosyncratic and Yorkindness has a perfect 3-3 record here over the slightly shorter 2m 1f trip.

He’ll find this easier than a higher grade 5th at Goodwood last time out and might just trouble the favourite.

A-Z TO FFOS LAS ENDS ON ZORAN

⭕ 3.40 Ffos Las I’ll have to take a trip to the Welsh venue at some point. However the travel directions I got suggests it’s a trek: “Drive to the end of the M4 and then keep driving for another hour!”.

If I left now I’m not sure I’ll catch the 3.40 but I’m keen here on Zoran to follow up what was an incredibly easy win at Kempton last time out where he made all the running.

I much prefer his current profile to that of the likely market leader Shagpyle who is up 5lb for finishing eighth last time out !!!! It did come in a Group 3 admittedly but he’s proved hard to win with since making a winning debut at Ascot.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
