PREVIEW
Today’s interesting rugby league game sees seventh placed Huddersfield play fellow struggling rivals Wakefield at the Galpharm Stadium, with the latter side desperate to improve their perilous position just three places from the bottom of the table. The Wildcats have won just two of their last six games which is hardly grounds for optimism but Huddersfield are becoming a notoriously hard team to predict of late.

The Giants have twice smashed 50 points past opponents in their last six league fixtures but have lost eight of their last ten games overall. Coach Nathan Brown was sacked after the club’s disappointing exit from the Challenge Cup, which followed their latest close home defeat to Salford. The Australian’s replacement, Paul Anderson, has called for discipline for his first game in charge.

Wildcats vice-captain Richard Mathers cannot wait for Sunday’s trip to Huddersfield and believes his team will be feeling refreshed having had a weekend off because of the cup semi-finals. Unfortunately though, the Super League’s top tackler Paul Aiton suffered a broken jaw in a mugging whilst taking a short holiday. The attack has ruled the Wakefield hooker out for up to eight weeks and his loss is a massive blow as Richard Agar’s team try and get their season back on track.

Neither of these teams appeal as a serious betting proposition but with Huddersfield having home advantage, a stronger recent head-to-head record and the hope that a fresh manager reinvigorates the club, take them to see off Wakefield.
