England v Australia 3rd T20

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have a series decider between England and Australia on Betdaq Betting Exchange as the sides finish the T20 series on Sunday. Things were looking quite bleak for England at the halfway stage on Friday night in Cardiff; they conceded 193/6 and at 1-0 down in the three game series, Australia were trading long odds on at that stage! Liam Livingstone had other ideas though; he smashed a match winning 87 off 47 balls, and let’s not forget a superb knock from Jacob Bethell too. As the rest of the middle order fell either side of that partnership it was very impressive. Livingstone was dropped from the ODI squad and wasn’t sure if his ODI career with England was over – he said he had to try play his way back into the ODI team through his T20 performances; he’s doing that.

From an Australian point of view, they didn’t do much wrong. Obviously they could have bowled better, but Livingstone is a superb talent and when he gets going he’s very hard to stop. It would have been a different game if he went early looking at the rest of the batters. It was very interesting to see England decide to rest Jofra Archer when they were 1-0 down in a series against Australia. It prompted the question of; does this series matter? If it doesn’t matter against Australia; what does? It was a must win game and you’re resting your top bowler who has been in great form.

The debate about context to this bilateral series’ will rumble on. It’s ironic how people question why T20 franchise cricket is booming and International cricket is ‘dying’ – then you get a decision like that from England! Nevertheless, we should have a dramatic game ahead of us – surely beating the old enemy in any series is worth something.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re in Old Trafford for the 3rd and final T20, and September in Manchester is always going to be a worry with the weather. The forecast is for rain on Sunday, so it’s going to be a day of watching the radar. I would be surprised if they got the full 20 over game in, indeed we might be struggling to see a game completed to be honest. With the forecast the way it is, it’s a no brainer to bowl first and chase.

RECOMMENDED BET:

The chances of a full 20 over game here are slim with the forecast, so until we know the playing conditions and how many overs a side we can get in, it’s wise to keep stakes to a minimum before the off here. I know Livingstone lead England to a win to level the series, but I still feel Australia are the much better side – their batting has been in a much better place and they have the right bowling line-up for cloudy and possibly wet conditions too. I’m happy with a small bet on Australia at 1.77.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

It’s going to be a day of radar watching given the forecast, and I would give an edge to the side that bowls first – especially if we start the game with a possibility of showers cutting the innings short. If for example we get a five over game and the sides know where they stand, bowling first is still a good option but less of an edge. I’m still keen to take on that England middle order outside of Livingstone who is in superb form, and I’m also happy to keep supporting this Aussie batting because they are in good touch at the moment. Hopefully we can get a game in!
