FORTUNE COOKIES TOMORROW: Today Daqman records a weekend that created 10 favourites for the autumn campaign. Tomorrow he updates his Fortune Cookies, which had four winners.
SOSIE TOPS OF 10 FAVOURITES
TWO days that changed the racing world. Out of Longchamp, the Curragh and Leopardstown, TEN future favourites were established at the weekend.
The storming run of Sosie in yesterday’s Prix Niel turned over the French Derby form with Look De Vega, and sent Andre Fabre’s three-year-old to the fore in the Arc de Triomphe market.
On the same Longchamp card, King George runner-up Bluestocking had set Sosie and the other colts an Arc target by winning the fillies and mares best guide to the showdown on October 6.
The Ralph Beckett four-year-old is now joint-favourite for the Champions Day fillies and mares and favourite for the Breeders Cup Fillies and Mares.
Meanwhile at the Curragh, Gold Cup winner Kyprios took his seventh Group 1 in the Irish St Leger (in fact, won it easily), establishing himself one of the best stayers of all time.
He has proved he can win anything within the scope of a mile; even the Arc was mentioned as within his shooting range during a debrief, while he was shortening as favourite for the Long Distance Cup on Champions Day.
At the same Ascot spectacular, Kinross heads the Champion Sprint betting after winning the Park Stakes on St Leger day at Doncaster.
Bradsell’s supremacy was established after he followed the Nunthorpe with the Flying Five, and he is now favourite for the Abbaye sprint on Arc day and second favourite for the Breeders Cup sprint.
Lake Victoria’s Moyglare victory was seen as so special that she fronts the Cheveley Park and Fillies Mile markets, while runner-up Simmering has gone to the front of the market for the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies.
At Leopardstown on Saturday, Porta Fortuna beat Fallen Angel in the Matron Stakes and is now favourite for the Sun Chariot.
But perhaps race of the long weekend was Economics very fast time for the Irish Champion Stakes, winning a four-way battle which included Aidan O’Brien’s Derby winners Auguste Rodin and Los Angeles.
MURPHY’S LAW
⭕ 5.15 Windsor After his Grade 1 winner at Woodbine on Saturday night Oisin Murphy heads back to more familiar surroundings for Windsor’s afternoon card where he has a busy book of seven rides.
He’d be unlucky coming into this last race not looking for a double (at least) and can round the day off in style with Kento who looks transformed since switching to the blinkers.
Murphy rides for the first time and Kento looks set to go 321 after close up placed efforts at Lingfield (turf) and Chelmsford (AW) in his last two starts.
Main danger could come from recent course and distance winner Notre Maison who coped well with her hike in the weights with a subsequent narrow defeat at Chepstow.
SHADER OUT OF SHADOWS
⭕ 7.30 Kempton Quite a few short priced favourites on tonight’s Kempton card with Shader making more appeal in this mile and a half novice event than Mahato in the earlier 6.30 who is returning after injury.
Shader, trained by the Gosdens, stepped up significantly from his Yarmouth third on debut to storm home last time out at Southwell by seven and a half lengths. The combination of the step up in distance and switch to the all-weather all looked positives and he had some horses from top yards toiling in his wake behind.
Further improvement also looks likely so he his taken to defy his penalty and see off the likes of Al Ameed who looks a little more exposed and the Frankel colt Cadogan Place who also has a penalty here after his debut Southwell success which was followed by him being outclassed in the Group 3 Chester Case where he was beaten 17 lengths.
⭕ 8.30 Kempton Budding and Darkzideofthemoon head the Betdaq Betting Exchange market here but both are struggling for a first success and both are tried with first time headgear tonight.
It might pay to look a little deeper into the race and I thought Seraphic, who was pushing double figure odds on the morning market, represented fair value.
The Simon Pearce trained runner certainly won’t lack anything in the stamina department. He was a 30 length winner of a hurdle in his native France but seemed to lose his enthusiasm for the jumping game and has been kept to the flat recently.
He comes into this on the back of his best effort to date – a close up third to Stintino Sunset at Windsor and a reproduction of that effort would probably be more than good enough in this company.
At similar odds I’ll include Voyeur whose comeback effort at Newcastle after being gelded was much better than the official 9th place might indicate. He cut out much of the early running that day and only dropped back close home to be beaten 4 1/4 lengths. Off a mark 2lb lower and running in a weaker looking contest he is certainly of interest.
