ILLINOIS GUIDE TO THE ARC

⭕ 12.23 Longchamp (Prix Chaudenay, 3yo 1m 7f) Early competition among the three-year-olds, and the effect of the draw, could be helpful in picking the winners on Arc day tomorrow.

And the sole Irish raider against seven French-trained stayers in this has an Arc guide to form: that’s Illinois, who has finished runner-up to two of the Arc runners.

The Queen’s Vase winner and St Leger second clearly wants this stamina test after finishing second to Sosie in the Grand Prix de Paris (1m 4f soft) and to Los Angeles (1m 4f, firm) in the Great Voltigeur.

The only measure of Trafalgar Square is his early-season second in the Hocquart here over 1m 3f to Calandagan, who scored at Royal Ascot and ran City Of Troy to a length in the International at York (firm).

KYPRIOS GOLD CUP STRIKE

⭕ 1.33 Longchamp (Prix du Cadran, 2m 4f Group 1) The French equivalent of the Gold Cup has just one home defender against the versatile Kyprios.

Winner this season of the Ascot Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup and Irish St Leger among his 13 winners from 17 career starts for Aidan O’Brien, including the 2022 Cadran by 20 lengths.

Coltrane, Miss Cynthia and Trueshan are all safely held on form, but Christophe Ferland’s Double Major is officially only 2lb behind him, after winning the Royal Oak here last year.

One guideline for tomorrow is that Double Major has been beaten three times by one of Andre Fabre’s Arc runners, the Gladiateur winner Sevenna’s Knight.

⭕ 2.50 Longchamp (2yo, 1m) Three to England, one to Ireland in the last six years; most reliable are seemingly the top French jockeys, with six out of seven.

So maybe George Boughey (highly-regarded Beronia) was wise to book Mickael Barzalona, who won it on outside rides in 2020 and 21. Betdaq Betting Exchange 12.0 taken.

ANDROMEDE A STARS FILLY

⭕ 3.25 Longchamp (Prix Daniel Wildenstein, 1m Group 2) Charles Hills gives the leg up to Tom Marquand on Cicero’s Gift (3-3 on the soft) but I find more Arc-level clues.

Only a young Baaeed could stop Francis Graffard’s The Revenant (winner of this twice) in the British Champions Mile.

The same stable, which has been making a big name for itself in 2024 with Goliath and Calandagan, now saddles the Sea The Stars filly Andromede in this. BETDAQ 13.0.

With a stamina-packed pedigree, this five-time winner, including on soft, was not suited by the slow pace when third here to Arc hope, Mqse De Sevigne.

Best of the three-year-olds may be Alcantor: second to Sunway (very soft) in the Saint-Cloud Criterium as a two-year-old; the same pair finishing almost level, 6th and 7th, behind Look De Vega in the French Derby (heavy).

TWO FOR O’BRIEN AT 13.0

⭕ 4.00 Longchamp (1m 6f, fillies and mares) River Of Stars (Ralph Beckett), twice beaten by Term of Endearment (Henry De Bromhead) this summer, takes her on again but both are five-year-olds, and that age group has always been beaten by younger horses in this.. way back to 1975, at least.

Grateful at BETDAQ 13.0 (holds Lily Hart), who was behind that pair at Goodwood on firm ground, could overtake them on the soft, with a third Aidan O’Brien raider, Port Fairy at BETDAQ 13.0 (Ryan Moore’s pick), also in single-figure stalls, which have won nine times in the decade.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
