NATIONS LEAGUE: The Ultra previews WALES v ICELAND with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
WALES V ICELAND
7.45pm The last International Break of 2024 comes to an end on Tuesday as we close out the Nations League 2024/25 Group stage on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE. With the new format of the Nations League this season, we have plenty of action left with the Quarter-Finals along with all the new playoffs for promotion and relegation. Obviously there’s a big debate on International football these days – the general opinion is domestic football has become more important and better – the Nations League has at least made each International Break competitive, but I do feel three so close together has felt like too much this time around. That might be something for UEFA to look at.
Undoubtedly the highlight of Tuesday night is the clash between Wales and Iceland in Cardiff. Both sides had good results on Saturday with Wales getting a 0-0 draw away to Turkey and Iceland winning away to Montenegro. That win for Iceland wasn’t a surprise – Montenegro have lost every game so far in this Group. Turkey currently top the Group and given they meet Montenegro in their final game, it would be a big surprise if Turkey didn’t top the Group. They are two points ahead of Wales, and Wales are two points ahead of Iceland.
This game will decide who finishes second. With the new format this season, the stakes couldn’t be higher here. Second place goes into the promotion playoff and third goes into the relegation playoff. Wales will be delighted to have home advantage in such an important game – they are much better in front of their own fans. Wales come into the game as the odds on favourites at 1.71 with Iceland 6.2 and the draw is 3.6 at the time of writing.
The sides played out a very entertaining 2-2 draw when they met earlier in the Group – Wales took a 2-0 lead into half-time but threw it away in the second half. The market is expecting a tighter game this time around with Under 2.5 goals the odds on favourite. A draw would see Wales finish in that second spot, which has to be a big factor here for your betting – heading into the final 20 minutes they won’t need to chase the game if level. Iceland will though, and an away side chasing the game usually see an open game. I wouldn’t be rushing to back Unders at odds on here. I feel based on everything we’ve seen during this Group that there isn’t much between the sides, and with a draw suiting Wales too I like that position at 3.6 for a small investment.
