THREE MONDAY BETS: Daqman kicks off the last full week of racing before Christmas with three selections including a nap at Plumpton.
FESTIVE ASCOT: Daqman will be looking ahead later this week to the traditional pre-Christmas Ascot card on Friday and Saturday when the feature is the Grade 1 Howden Long Walk Hurdle.
BALKO ANOTHER PIPE DREAM
⭕ 2.10 Plumpton David Pipe had a couple of winners over the weekend including Cheltenham winner King Turgeon who will no doubt get the stable dreaming of another Grand National winner.
He looks to have an outstanding chance here with Lady Balko who made all to romp to a six and a half length course and distance win at the beginning of this month. The handicapper has inevitably had his say with a 9lb hike but this doesn’t look any harder and Jack Tudor is onboard again.
Sadler’s Bay was probably in need of the race when third at Market Rasen last month which came after an absence of 308 days. The longer trip should help but remains a maiden and has been a beaten favourite three times.
Village Master’s winning run 11-111P came to an abrupt end at Ffos Las last time out and wasn’t particularly positive in early trading so is best watched.
ARTHUR STILL HAS THE MAGIC
⭕ 3.22 Southwell It’s an odd jumps card this afternoon (correction this morning!) at Southwell which sees a bumper and three maiden hurdles right in the middle of the card.
I’m happy to wait for the finale which looks competitive, despite a field of just six but there are a couple of suspect stayers over this extended three mile trip which makes it interesting as a betting proposition on Betdaq Betting Exchange.
Whilst there are no stamina doubts with likely market leader My Gift To You – he looks very high in the handicap for my liking. He has been more active chasing recently with plenty of consistency but his mark of 110 today has to be compared with the 91 he was racing off here in January this year when scoring over a shorter trip but in a LOWER grade race. I’m sceptical as to whether he can be as effective in a higher grade now up a chunky 19lb.
Magical Arthur is taken to complete his hat-trick after good ground wins at Kempton and Plumpton. He should be equally as effective with some give and the Jennie Candlish yard are in great form with five winners from their last 22 runners. He’s up 4lb for a nose win which makes it hard but I think there is improvement to come over this trip.
Job is up significantly in trip and the jury is out after he dropped away quite alarmingly over 2m 4f at Uttoxeter last time out.
Prince De Juilley might be the biggest danger. He followed up his Ludlow win with a good second at Doncaster, although has take another hike in the weights as a result.
I’M ALRIGHT JACK
⭕ 7.00 Wolverhampton Redhot Whisper has had more chances than most and doesn’t look a solid favourite for my money. Whilst his turf form is considerably better than his rivals, he did flop on his only previous try on the all-weather which came after a 161 day break. He now returns after a similar 160 day absence.
With Always Waving back after a 411 day break having shown promise on debut at Kempton I’ll take a chance with
Jack McNamara who showed huge promise when second at the Curragh in October and wouldn’t need to do much more to land this surely?.
