GROUP 3 ACTION AT LEOPARDSTOWN: Feature race is the Ballyroan Stakes at 7.30. Also evening action from Sligo.
The Ballyroan Stakes has attracted a great line-up tonight including last season’s Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach. He’s only been campaigned at the top level since then and has become a real globetrotter racing in France, Canada, Meydan and most recently at Belmont Park where he never got competitive and was a disappointing beaten favourite. His current well being is hard to assess. Obviously a reproduction of his Irish Derby form would see him win this Group 3 hands down but there can be no certainty he is the same horse and the play here might be on the in-form Galileo’s Choice who comes here fresh from a Listed win here at Leopardstown and he has also already proved himself as a Group 3 winner.
I’m keen on Via Ballycroy in the opener. Mick Halford’s runner has finished placed in her last two starts in big runner fields and the form of her most recent second to Cape Of Approval was boosted when that one went onto win again next time out.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Via Ballycroy (5.25 Leopardstown)
NEXT BEST: Galileo’s Choice (7.30 Leopardstown)
