PREMIER LEAGUE: The Striker previews CHELSEA v WOLVES with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
CHELSEA V WOLVES
8pm We have Monday Night Football from the Premier League to enjoy on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as Chelsea host Wolves. It’s fair to say that both sides are desperately in need of something good happening – Chelsea have been on an awful run lately, and Wolves started this matchday sitting just outside the relegation zone. Chelsea have now gone five games without a win, and they would have been delighted to see Newcastle lose at home to Bournemouth on Saturday given Newcastle jumped over them into the Top Four. A few weeks ago Chelsea looked like the biggest challenger to Liverpool for the title, that idea is long gone now!
The hard thing to take from a Chelsea point of view is that they haven’t had a difficult fixture list. If anything, on paper their fixture list was easy. They have dropped points against Everton, Fulham, Ipswich, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth. I wouldn’t be too worried with their performance level; they should have done much better – they finished with the higher xG figure in three out of the five games. They’ve been sloppy at the back though, and Wolves will be hoping they get the same type of performance because they need all the help they can get this season.
Wolves have hit the panic button when changing managers, and while that produced two wins and a draw from three games, they have since lost 3-0 in back-to-back games against Nottingham Forest and Newcastle. Those two sides have had some excellent momentum recently in fairness, but obviously every game is a high pressure game for Wolves given their situation. They have much better figures compared to the three sides who got promoted, but they still need to grind out points to get away from danger.
As you would expect, Chelsea come into the game as the hot favourites. Chelsea are trading 1.42 with Wolves 7.8 and the draw is 5.8 at the time of writing. I have to say I was expecting to see Chelsea trading a little shorter when I clicked into the market – I felt they would be in the 1.3’s rather than the 1.4’s given how poor Wolves have been this season. However, the price is understandable given the current run from Chelsea – as I said above they’ve been dropping points in games that they should be winning on paper – just like this one.
While I do feel that the 1.42 on Chelsea is a little big from a value point of view, I’m happy to stay out of the match odds market here. Chelsea have been sloppy at the back on this run, and Wolves have had plenty of goals in their recent games. Over 2.5 goals has collected in nine of the last ten Wolves Premier League games. We should have a pretty open game here too, and Over 2.5 goals looks a nicer position at one tick bigger than the Chelsea win.
