CARABAO CUP SEMI-FINAL: The Striker previews NEWCASTLE v ARSENAL with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
NEWCASTLE V ARSENAL
8pm The Carabao Cup is back on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, and it’s crunch time in the second legs of the Semi-Finals. We have a fascinating week ahead with the two underdogs ahead going into the second legs. Newcastle are in a very nice position on Wednesday night 2-0 up with home advantage against Arsenal, while Spurs take a 1-0 lead to Anfield – you wouldn’t exactly be confident on them keeping that! Arsenal hammered Manchester City 5-1 at the weekend, so they will fancy their chances of overturning Newcastle’s two goal lead here. We should have a fascinating game ahead!
Newcastle will be the red-hot favourites to get to the Final given the situation, but we could easily see some big drama here. Newcastle lost here at the weekend against Fulham, and they also lost their previous home game 4-1 against Bournemouth. They conceded high xG figures in both games and didn’t deserve anything from either game. If Arsenal can score early here, I wouldn’t be surprised if they could go very close to actually going through. The weekend basically couldn’t have gone any better for Arsenal, and surely they will attack from the start here so we should have an entertaining game.
Arsenal come into the game as the favourites at 2.26 with Newcastle 3.4 and the draw is 3.65 at the time of writing. It will be very interesting to see how Newcastle line-up here; it’s hard to play your normal game when you have a two goal lead coming into the tie. I can see them being a little bit more cagey than normal. The two sides sit beside each other on the xG table in the Premier League – Arsenal have an attacking figure of 1.63 with Newcastle on 1.54. The massive difference is at the back though, where Arsenal have been much better.
Arsenal have the best defensive figure in the Premier League this season with an average xG conceded of 1.09. Newcastle are much higher on 1.49, and why they are so high in the table is they have been massively getting away with things at the back – sides just haven’t been taking their chances against them this season, and they’ve been over-performing a little in front of goal. Arsenal face a big task here away from home, but I’d have them shorter than 2.26 to get the job done. A little worry has to be them throwing away a one goal lead late because they need to win by two, so I’ll reduce stakes a little because of that but I still feel we’re getting great value here at 2.26 – three points is a confident bet for me.
