19 Jul 2001 Copa America Bolivia 0-4 Costa Rica
PREVIEW
The competition’s two biggest outsiders meet in this evening’s Copa America showdown. Costa Rica can be backed at 995.0 to win the tournament and Bolivia aren’t in with much of a chance either as 755.0-shots.
However, there is hope we might witness an entertaining contest tonight. Costa Rica had chances against Colombia in their opener, but couldn’t convert them, and lost 1-0. It was only the second time in a dozen matches in which they have failed to score.
According to Lionel Messi, Bolivia ‘parked the bus’ against Argentina, but they held out for a 1-1 draw against the short-price tournament, so who can blame them?
Defeat for either side will almost certainly lead to elimination, and targeting a draw would be a risky strategy.
As the bottom-placed side in Group A, the Costa Ricans are going to have to push the harder, but they showed enough to suggest that they look worthy of a small poke as 3.85 underdogs.
The one and only time these sides have previously met was in the group stage of the 2001 version of this competition when Costa Rica ran out 4-0 winners.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Costa Rica at 3.85: 2 points
Wednesday’s Return: +5.72 points
