LINED UP FOR THE FLAT: Daqman today previews the Saturday meeting which opens the Flat turf season at Doncaster but he leaves the Lincoln for tomorrow.

6-SHOOTER BACK WITH BULLET

⭕ 1.15 Doncaster, Saturday (Brocklesby Stakes) Bill Turner used to be the Brocklesby wizard – he trained six winners of the race – and his Somerset yard overlooking King Arthur’s Cadbury Castle may try to restore the old magic with The Boreham Bullet.

Last year’s winning trainer at 16-1, Dylan Cunha, could saddle Kamakameleon, son of 2,000 Guineas winner, Kameko, out of a mare by Siyouni, sire of Arc winner Sotsass.

⭕ 1.50 Doncaster, (Spring Mile) AGE: Four-year-olds 6-9. LAYS LOGIC: No outright favourite has won this in 12 years.

STALLS: Those watching the race hoping for a guide to the Lincoln draw should note that the winners of both races have come from the same side in the last three seasons.

*Spring Mile result by stall: 16, 15, 8, 4, 6, 1, 3, 21, 1, 15, 5
*Lincoln Handicap winner: 3, 3, 15, 22, 20, 10, 17, 10, 4, 12, 2

⭕ 2.25 Doncaster (Cammidge Trophy) AGE: Four (4) and five year olds (3) have won seven years out of nine.

LAYS LOGIC: No outright favourite has scored in the decade.
STALLS: The last four winners have come out of gates 6, 4, 5, 5

⭕ 3.00 Doncaster (Mile) AGE: Four and five together 10-12. STALLS: Eight out of nine winners from gates 1 to 6. FAVOURITES: Six out of nine, five at odds-on.

⭕ 3.35 Doncaster (Lincoln Handicap): see five-star guide tomorrow.

⭕ 4.10 Doncaster (3yo maiden) Andrew Balding (2) and Ralph Beckett (2) share 50% of the winners in the last eight years.

⭕ 4.45 Doncaster (Future Stars apprentice handicap) This used to be a grand opening to the meeting, with the winning rider leading jockey for half an hour.

Why don’t planners and promoters of British racing restore the attraction and finish the season – which is also at Doncaster – with a race for winning first-day apprentices of previous years.

STAR MOUNT FOR MURPHY

⭕ 5.30 Kempton I fancy Oisin Murphy for the main race of the night at 7pm, but he could well have been in the winner’s enclosure already by then, after riding White Crown Star for Andrew Balding in this 7f novice.

Racereaders marked him down as an eyecatcher, after he finished third for Sir Michael Stoute at Yarmouth.

He was behind a then stablemate, Nightwalker, who was subsequently third in a Group 3 on Newmarket Heath, before Sir Michael’s retirement and the pair of them were moved, White Crown Star to Balding and Nightwalker to the Gosdens.

Nightwalker, who has a rating of 102, is being quoted 50-1 for the Derby and runs in one of the trials.

White Crown Star, who has had a wind op, languishes off 78 for this reappearance, so undervalued and underexposed.

KING SET FOR A DOUBLE

⭕ 7.00 Kempton Has Mount Athos met his match? The dual winner of this 7f handicap has scored at Listed level since, when raiding the Polytrack at Deauville in November.

His Kempton form is 1111 and he’s won all four after a break, and all four were ridden by today’s jockey, James Doyle.

But, rated 104, he has to give age (he’s six now) and weight to a trio of four-year-olds, king among them Roi De France for John Gosden.

In his final handicap as a three-year-old, Roi De France narrowly beat Popmaster here at Kempton over a mile in November and finished in front of the same horse two weeks later when runner-up to a 109-rated winner in a Listed.

The consistent Heathcliff has been running over 6f this year, keeping on well the last day at Kempton, where he scored over 7f in the autumn.

Local Hero’s success here has been at a lower level but that’s why he’s getting a stone or so from the star players.

Oisin Murphy, striking at 42%, has his first ride of the year for Gosden and will want Roi De France to make it a winning start before they tackle better class company on Good Friday. Betdaq Betting Exchange 4.0.

FANTASTIC STRIKE RATE

⭕ 7.30 Kempton Hollie Doyle has ridden Sweet Fantastic just the once, and that brought success over 7f here at Kempton in January, with first-time cheekpieces.

Hollie is back on board for this step up to a mile, and the colt’s pedigree suggests he will do well over even further.

Sweet Fantastic’s half-brother won a Listed over 1m 4f and his dam’s sister was a Group-1 winner at 1m 2f.

Trainer Hugo Palmer has a 75% strike rate in three-year-old handicaps at Kempton. BETDAQ 4.4 taken.
