HOW THE MIGHTY ARE FALLEN! Fallen Angel beat off persistent Ballydoyle challenges from first Exactly then 8-5 favourite January to score a massive Group-1 victory in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville yesterday for Karl Burke and Danny Tudhope. The Irish 1,000 Guineas winner scored in a fast time.

TODAY’S NAP: Pearl Fortune (2.40 Ripon) looks capable of defying a penalty for Karl Burke, following up on her 5f success first time. That was on the stiff Beverley course so that today’s extra furlong should be no problem.

DAQMAN’S MONDAY CLUB

Brighton Mile (Wednesday) Memories of the Brighton Belle, the famous luxury train from London Victoria to Brighton races, the only all-electric Pullman in the world.

Many years on my connection is with Sapporo, the Japanese sponsors of today’s Mile, but not the lager, the car!

The Mile could land a hat-trick today almost as boggling as the 150-1 Goodwood winner.

The last two SPs have been 40-1 and 28-1, both winners six-year-olds, both out of stall 2.

What price (literally) a third consecutive shock? This Daqman column hopes to have the answer.

A year ago, Uncle Dick scored for Eve Johnson Houghton, who had 8-1 and 18-1 strikes at Goodwood last week. Charlie Bishop takes over as the seven-year-old goes for back-to-back wins.

⭕ Brighton Challenge Cup (Thursday) Stalls 7, 8, 9 have shared six of the last nine winners. Team Johnston have won three times (Mark 2, Charlie 1) with young horses.

⭕ Brighton Bullet (Friday) Three-year-olds have taken this three years out of four, a sequence started by Eve Johnson Houghton, who has such a good record in the Mile on Wednesday.

Fortune Cookies: I’m adding Garden Of Eden to my list of fillies to follow after Danielle was my Goodwood eyecatcher (see yesterday).

Garden Of Eden was never happy forced wide on heavy ground in Sunday’s German Oaks from an outside draw in 12.

Charlie Appleby’s Spirited Style was also bogged down, but from the one stall, after missing the break under William Buick.

The winner of the race at Dusseldorf was Nicoreni (Peter Schiergen trainer), the one-two coming out of gates 3 and 4.

Horse of the week Coventry Stakes winner, Gstaad, may run in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday. The last colt to do the double, Coventry and Phoenix, was Caravaggio (2016), also trained by Aidan O’Brien.

MANDURAH DOWN IN CLASS

⭕ 3.40 Ripon, today Kodiac Thriller can make this a true test, as a front-runner but steps back up in trip today and has never won higher than class 4. Warren Fentiman’s 5lb claim will help.

Fortamour, last year’s winner of this 6f sprint, is back for the double off the same mark of 80. But he’s nine years old now and has to contend with the one stall.

Westmorian landed an AW hat-trick in the Spring but has never scored on turf (0-12) and never even reached the frame at Ripon.

Tim Easterby has won this twice in the last six seasons both from low stalls (3 and 4) and CD-winner Mister Sox runs off his last winning mark.

Archduke Ferdinand is a Redcar specialist but First Folio is well in on his old form.

Mandurah ( Betdaq Betting Exchange 8.1) drops into a handicap from the Pattern, giving nearly a stone to Mister Sox (7.5 offers), who has the better draw.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
