DAQMAN OUTSIDERS UP TO 18.0: Daqman starts his weekend hunt for value offers on BETDAQ and finds a nap at 5.7 and outsiders at 9.9, 13.0 and 18.0, as Sandown opens its two-day meeting with bull’s-eye bets. Says Daqman: ‘I hope the rain doesn’t spoil an interesting card. Check your fancy in the BETDAQ market as you follow the day.’
IT ALL POINTS TO SHORE
⭕ 2.45 Sandown Top and bottom of the handicap are both well drawn but the one (Lipsink) is an eight-year-old who hasn’t won above class 6 on turf since 2022 and the other (Mister Sandman) a three-year-old with poor form and from a modest yard.
A second three-year-old is an entirely different proposition: South Shore Island (stall 2) looks plotted up for this descent into sprinting territory!
He likes to go with the pace and weakened only in the final furlong over 7f here in July. BETDAQ 13.0 this morning looked too big.
The handicapper has dropped him 16lb since the Spring and, as a son of Blue Point, he could take this chance to emerge as a speed artist. He is related to several decent sprinters.
IS ACCREDIT A JONQUIL?
⭕ 3.15 Sandown I’ve missed Sir Michael Stoute but I’ve followed one of the horses he launched that has continued to bloom: Jonquil.
Jonquil won this very maiden first time on a racecourse for Sir Michael last year, and this season won a Group 3 in the Spring and the Group-2 Celebration Mile (when Daqman’s nap) at Goodwood.
In between at Longchamp was probably his best performance when beaten only a head by Henri Matisse in the French 2,000 Guineas, with the subsequent French Derby winner, Camille Pissarro in third.
All due credit to his 2025 trainer, Andrew Balding, but Sir Michael’s name figured in Jonquil’s Pattern projects when I decided he was a fortune cookie. Will there be another Jonquil in this race?
Do you want Accredit, related on the dam’s side to Oaks and Arc winner Enable, or his Too Darn Hot stablemate, Mr Keble?
Or will the winner be Dewhurst entry Alderman? A must-watch race with a bit on Accredit.
WARRIOR IS STRONG NAP
⭕ 4.08 Thirsk Forecast rain makes assessment tricky; how much falls, how much gets into the ground.
Eight of the 12 remaining in this 7f (class 2) handicap are course winners, including Persuasion, winner and third in the last two runnings but now an eight-year-old.
Northern Express, sixth from the front in the International at Ascot, is expected to lead out of gate 5.
That could help Strong Warrior (stall 3), who has also mixed it with the best when raised from the handicap level of an International, not clear run two out in the Group-1 Commonwealth Cup. BETDAQ 5.7 does not represent anywhere near that level.
THAT’S MY GIRL AT 18.0
⭕ 4.58 Sandown The Gosden’s Keble Spirit is another son of Too Darn Hot in the same ownership as Mr Keble, who runs in the maiden at 3.15.
Raised 10lb for two handicap places, but winner, second and fourth when he was third here at Sandown have all failed since.
The subsequent winner from Something Splendid’s race in July had to be dropped to class 6 to score.
Double Red (stall 6 today) and Beach Point meet on the same terms as their one-two at Nottingham in the Spring: Beach Point won here (class 4) the last day but is drawn out in 12 this afternoon.
Patagonia Girl has won a grade higher and is consistent, aiming too high last time: can her claimer overcome stall 13? The 18.0 offers this morning were too big; 4.2 a place.
Charming Whisper (stall 4 here) had Double Red well behind when scoring with a fine run from the rear on the July Course at the start of this month and was just denied in a three-way photo, back there two weeks ago, when he was in front two out. Also big at offers of 9.9.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
