ENGLAND V SOUTH AFRICA: The Edge previews the 2nd ODI between England and South Africa from Lord’s with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
After completely flopping in the 1st ODI, England get a chance to bounce back quickly in the 2nd ODI against South Africa. We had a short but sweet 1st ODI with England bowled out for just 131; it was a complete 1.01 train on Betdaq Betting Exchange! That worked for us given we were on South Africa, but from an England point of view it was a woeful performance. I think Michael Atherton summed England up quite well on Sky Sports – half the squad are coming off a tough five Test series against India and then the Hundred, while the other half basically haven’t played much cricket at all.
Jacob Bethell is a classic example of what is wrong with the English system at the moment. He was woefully out of form in the Hundred so effectively got little time in the middle. Because the ECB have put the domestic 50 over tournament alongside the Hundred, that has taken away any chance of players getting some much needed time in the middle in these situations. Obviously the 50 over debate always come around when England under-perform in the ODI format, but whatever way you look at it, the ECB have really taken the knife to the domestic 50 over competition.
From a South African point of view, they won’t change a thing. Line and length will be king once again, and their batting has been in decent form too. England will be the ones that have to dig deep and find something different now. They desperately need someone to stand up in that middle order and produce a century. A fascinating game ahead.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We move to Lord’s for the 2nd ODI. Once again, it’ll be interesting to see the crowd here given we’ve only just had the Hundred Final here days ago. London (Lord’s and the Oval) never really suffers with low crowds though. We last had an ODI here this month last year; England scored 312/5 off 39 overs and hammered Australia to win by 186 runs. In 2023, also in September England scored 311/9 to beat New Zealand by 100 runs and in 2022 England scored 246 all out against India by again won by 100 runs. I think you’d have to bat first here, unless overhead conditions looked very difficult.
RECOMMENDED BET:
The market seems to have wrote off the 1st ODI as a bad day at the office for England. They were 1.69 to win that one, and they are 1.75 here so they’ve only drifted six ticks. In fairness, the way cricket is played in a fast-forward manner now sides do have some massive collapses these days. We landed a bet on South Africa at 2.4 on Tuesday, and I feel they are worth supporting again here at 2.32. Once again, I feel we’ll have a closer game than the odds suggest and I’m happy to be on South Africa at the odds.
The Edge Says:
One point win South Africa to beat England at 2.32 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Taking on the England lower order paid out handsomely on Tuesday, and I’d be keen to take them on again here. As I said above, some of this England side have had very little time in the middle recently. However, the only thing to note about this game is batting conditions would seem to be quite good coming into this game; obviously things can get tricky when it’s overcast at Lord’s but the wickets have been very good here this summer. I do feel we’ll get some good spots to support South Africa again this game, especially given the market hasn’t moved them in a huge amount.
