NICHOLLS SEASON STARTS HERE: Paul Nicholls usually catches fire this weekend with today’s Haldon Gold Cup meeting at Exeter – where Daqman supernaps his ‘future star’ in the Silver Bowl – and tomorrow’’s Badger Beers Chase and Elite Hurdle at Wincanton.

FLAT SEASON ENDS TOMORROW: Daqman has a final tilt at the Flat tomorrow when the season fades into the mist and mystery of the November Handicap.

QUEBECOIS TAKES THE STAGE

⭕ 1.50 Exeter (Future Stars Silver Bowl) Paul Nicholls is 5-7 in this race, four of them favourite, and this is likely to be five, with Quebecois heading the market on BETDAQ this morning.

He gets mentioned at home in the same breath as Stage Star, who shot up 27lb from hurdles to fences and won the 2023 Autumn Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

Quebecois, who is within a pound of Stage Star at this stage of their careers, is launched over fences after a long break and a wind op.

KALIF COULD BE SOLID GOLD

⭕ 2.25 Exeter (Haldon Gold Cup) This has been Tizzard preserve recently: Colin one, Joe two in the last four years.

And their JPR One will be well backed to follow up last year’s victory, when he comfortably held Venetia Williams’ Djelo and Sans Bruit for Paul Nicholls.

But Venetia, who landed the Charlie Hall with Djelo last weekend, and Nicholls, too, are both gunning for revenge.

The Djelo stable sends out Martator, who landed five in a row at this time a year and more ago, and Paul Nicholls tries to add to four wins in this race since 2015, with among them the quality pair, Politologue and Greaneteen.

Kalif Du Berlais has the same top-weight as Greaneteen and JPR One when they won this and has 3-4 over fences since this time last year. ‘Right up there on potential,’ says Nicholls.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 2.74 Kalif Du Berlais, 10.5 Martator

HERE COMES THE JUDGE..

⭕ 3.20 Hexham Hello Judge has made steady improvement of nearly a stone this year and may go on again, facing competition that’s been long absent.

I attribute to Raceform this eye-opening comment on Hello Judge’s strike at Carlisle last month: ‘Displayed a superb round of jumping and a thoroughly willing attitude.’

Sam and Jonathan England won a decent hurdle at Wetherby on Saturday, giving the stable three wins and four placed from eight still standing.

Sam and Jonathan are back together with Hudson De Grugy, who has had a long lay-off.

So, too, Lounge Lizard for Henry Daly. The Huntingdon specialist has to give weight all round. BETDAQ 5.1 Hello Judge

THIS IS IN SIGHT FOR VISION

⭕ 3.35 Exeter First time out may be the time to catch Vision De Maine. He won back to back at this time last year, then distance or ground, or both, were unsuitable. BETDAQ 6.5 taken.

Don’t be put off today by the performance of his stablemate, the Martaline grey, Thanksforthehelp, from the same yard yesterday, and be encouraged for that one’s future.

He became the drifter of the day before the ‘off’, had a look at them – third three out – then weakened. Had ‘next time’ written all over him.

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
