AUSTRALIA v ENGLAND: The Edge previews the 2nd Ashes Test on Thursday evening with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Australia v England 2nd Test
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The 2nd Ashes Test arrives on Betdaq Betting Exchange as the sides move to the Gabba for the Day/Night Test! It feels like an age since we had the 1st Test – probably because it was all over after two days! I have to say, England blew an incredible opportunity when they had bowled Australia out for 132 in the second innings – I know they were already all out for 172, but what a position going into their second innings only to get bowled out again cheaply. Australia can take that as a massive win – their bowling line-up was injury hit and what a golden opportunity missed for England.
I said this prior to the 1st Test, but it really felt like England needed to hit the ground running and land that 1st Test with the Aussie bowling attack injuries. That being said, how good was Starc? He absolutely blew them away. While we had a tonne of drama and market movements in Perth – we can expect more of the same here given this is a Day/Night Test. Generally, batting has been very tough in that period where the sun is setting and the lights are taking effect. It’s no surprise here to see the draw price trading as big as 18.5 – I wouldn’t even be surprised if we saw 20.0+ before the start either.
England have come out fighting in the press with all the negativity around their Bazball approach – they always do that after a defeat. Obviously England aren’t going to change the way they play but what the 1st Test did highlight was just how important Joe Root is to that middle order. Under lights here, England will need him more than ever to steady the ship amongst all the carnage. Ashes cricket hey, it’s never dull.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
As I said above, the draw is trading 18.5 here and I really can’t see how this ends with a draw given it’s a Day/Night Test. The Gabba is a fantastic place for cricket; obviously we have a tonne of history here. It’s mainly been a result venue – even without the Day/Night conditions. We had a run of eleven Tests with a result here since 2013, but that came to an end last year when India toured – basically the rain had a massive part to play there. This will be a result wicket; things tend to happen very quickly here – it might actually suit England!
RECOMMENDED BET:
I’m happy to ignore the draw in the market here; I see this as a straight shootout between Australia and England. Australia are trading 1.58 and England are 3.15. We had a small bet on England in the 1st Test, and while they traded much shorter than their starting price they failed to get the job done. While similar things might happen here, I do feel the 3.15 offers a little value on England. As I said above, they really need Joe Root to come to the party in the middle order and then everything just might click. This isn’t a massively strong Australian side, but you have to take on board that they are more consistent. I’m happy to have a small investment on England.
The Edge Says:
One point win England to beat Australia at 3.15 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
In-running traders saw a huge amount of swings in the 1st Test, and I really wouldn’t be surprised to see a similar market here. At the moment, you wouldn’t have too much faith in either batting line-up and given conditions, you’d expect the bowlers to be on top again. From an in-play point of view, I do feel supporting the bowling side in that period where the sun sets and the lights take effect will be a very good area. Other than that, I’d go into this game expecting plenty of twists and turns.
