ATHLETIC BILBAO V REAL MADRID

6pm The wonderful midweek action from La Liga continues on Betdaq Betting Exchange! We have another cracking fixture on Wednesday as Athletic Bilbao host Real Madrid. This is another huge game for Real Madrid as they aim to end a three game streak of draws which has given away their five point lead over Barcelona. They come into the midweek round of fixtures one point behind Barcelona, and although they have a tough game against Atletico Madrid before this fixture is played on Tuesday night, they do have home advantage there.

By the time Real Madrid kick off here, they could be four points behind and undoubtedly the pressure is on. We have had rumours of the players unhappy with Xabi Alonso, and the results are doing nothing to stop those rumours either. Apparently, the players are unhappy with the demands put on them in training – most of the comments from football fans have been supporting the manager to be honest, but there’s nothing like results turning to pump up the heat on a manager!

In fairness to Real Madrid, they have played badly – it’s just been one of those runs and probably come at the same time as the rumours, it all looks bad at face value. They finished with an xG of 2.1 in the 0-0 draw with Rayo Vallecano, 2.25 in the 2-2 draw with Elche and 2.6 in the 1-1 draw with Girona at the weekend. They could have easily won all three games – the most they conceded was against Elche, but even then you could easily argue they should have won the game. I wouldn’t come into this game thinking that they are playing badly.

On paper, this is a way more difficult fixture compared to their last three games. Athletic Bilbao might not be at their best this season compared to last season, but they are always very difficult to beat at home. Real Madrid come into the game as the odds on favourites at 1.82 with Athletic Bilbao 4.5 and the draw is 4.2 at the time of writing. Bilbao have really struggled in front of goal this season – they have a mid-table average xG created but they aren’t converting those chances; they average only one goal per game at the moment in La Liga.

Last year, Bilbao were exceptionally strong at home, but this season they have already had two losses – 1-0 against Alaves and also 1-0 to Getafe – that wasn’t happening last season! I know this is still a tough place to come and win, but I do feel the 1.82 is worth backing on Real here. I’ll keep stakes limited because obviously they are struggling to get over the line in games, but as I said above, they are still playing very good football – I’d have them a little shorter than 1.8.

The Ultra Says:
Two points win Real Madrid to beat Athletic Bilbao at 1.82 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
