A 9-2 WINNER FOR DAQMAN: Daqman delved a long way back in the form book to spot a big chance for Knight Templar (WON 9-2) yesterday. Now he naps one at Huntingdon that hasn’t been seen for a year!
NATIONAL TEST IN THE MUD: It’s the Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park, trying to uphold its power as the Grand National pointer bar none, but will it work-out well in the heavy ground today? Daqman tries a stayer dropping back in trip.
WALSH DESERVES BETTER
⭕ 3.30 Gowran Park (Thyestes Chase) Nick Rockett won this last year before landing Daqman the Grand National at an absurd 33-1.
It was a 21st-century Aintree hat-trick for the Thyestes after Hedgehunter (2004) and Numbersixvalverde (2005).
Victory for Better Times Ahead would complete a big-race treble in six days for owner J P McManus and give Mark Walsh a slice of the cake before Harry Cobden returns from injury.
McManus won the Clarence House Stakes with Jonbon and followed up with Surrey National winner, Aworkinprogress.
A 12.0 Betdaq Betting Exchange offer, Better Times Ahead is up 9lb for winning the Porterstown at Fairyhouse in November but that’s put him on a handy mark for this kind of race over a shorter trip on heavy.
Runner-up Will Do is better off at the weights but has never won a chase in 12 attempts.
GENOIS ANOTHER FOR J. P.
⭕ 1.20 Wetherby Geryville has raced 13 times at Wetherby, a shock 40-1 winner at the start of his career in 2021 but unable to score there again until this race last January.
J .P. McManus’s Genois, 16 lengths behind Geryville that day, and now 18lb better off, allowing for Ben Macey’s claim, is a winner here recently and has previously scored in a Grade 3 over the CD. BETDAQ 6.9.
Walk On Quest was raised 24lb for winning four in a row around this time last year but hasn’t been able to hold that level.
Doyouknowwhatimean was in peak form last time out but has never won above class 4.
Fine Casting has won just the one chase in seven tries but is with a top team doing well, Ben Pauling and Ben Jones.
Hello Judge has steadily stepped up a stone with four strikes in the last year. It was old-fashioned breeding (Milan out of a Roselier mare) gave us 18 times placed Ned Tanner.
BOLD BID TO BOUNCE BACK
⭕ 3.15 Huntingdon Ace Of Spades is always a turn card, 11 consecutive races in the first four, but has never won this far.
Onewaywest is also consistent, also without success at this trip; in fact, he has never tried it before, and both strikes have come in class 4. That’s also the level for Benign Dictator.
Beware Bold Endeavour; not seen for a year but fourth and fifth in the Pertemps Final in 2023 and 2024 when last trained by Nicky Henderson. Now around a stone lower at 4.5 on BETDAQ this morning.
Loup De Maulde has had an even longer break, a CD winner over hurdles in December, 2022. Don Virginia and Sole Solution have yet to score outside novice company.
CONCERT UPSTAGES OSCAR?
⭕ 7.00 Newcastle With low-grade winter racing in settled conditions (rain on a daily basis), astute stables are farming the AW prizemoney.
So it is that my nap on Tuesday completed six in a row, all at Newcastle, all in class 6, all in these winter months, since November. And, would you believe, ALL odds against.
The trainer was Adrian Keatley; the horse Aisling Oscar. And he’s back at Gosforth Park tonight, bidding for SEVEN in a row.
His 5lb penalty is cancelled out by the claim of Conor Whiteley, who won on him nine days ago, but Wyvern who was runner-up gets a weight pull; so does Tasever, who was second on Tuesday.
And Conor’s claim also helps balance out the 12lb turn-around which gives Concert Boy a chance of revenge after their one-two here in early December.
Concert Boy was steered by an amateur rider that day. Now Jason Hart has been called in (3123 with his last four on this Katie Scott six-year-old).
BETDAQ offers this morning of 16 Concert Boy and 19.5 Wyvern are massive alongside 2.6 Aisling Oscar. But whatever happens tonight, Adrian Keatley deserves an Oscar!

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
