MACCLESFIELD V BRENTFORD

7.30pm We finish the FA Cup Fourth Round with Monday Night Football on Betdaq Betting Exchange. Macclesfield host Brentford in another David v Goliath FA Cup fixture – a sixth-tier National League North side against a Premier League side. That’s not going to hold back Macclesfield though as they knocked Crystal Palace out in the Third Round! Macclesfield pulled off arguably the biggest shock in FA Cup history when they beat holders Crystal Palace 2-1 at Moss Rose last month. John Rooney’s side were incredible here; Wayne Rooney running onto the pitch crying at his brother’s achievement at full-time was a classic football moment. Let’s see will we get any more Magic of the Cup!

The scenes were incredible to be honest, with supporters flooding the pitch and while we have a small crowd given the size of the stadium, the atmosphere will surely be buzzing. It’s also worth noting that this is a club that reformed in 2020 after the old Macclesfield Town got wound up, and they’ve climbed through the divisions since. It will be interesting to see can they stop a Brentford side who have been flying high in the Premier League this season. Keith Andrews has done a remarkable job since replacing Thomas Frank in the summer – Thomas Frank must be wondering what he’s done after getting sacked by Spurs – but Brentford are massively over-performing their xG numbers this season.

They have an average xG created of just 1.30 per game which in the bottom five attacking figures in the Premier League. They are in the bottom seven on defensive figures, but somehow find themselves sitting in seventh place. Obviously confidence is sky high and morale is top notch in the dressing room, but they have been very lucky to get the results they have. You’d expect some regression at some point, but credit to Andrews for getting results – it’s exactly like the Unai Emery situation as Aston Villa – he’s getting absolutely everything out of his squad. It’s no surprise given the gulf in class between the sides that Brentford come into the game as the red-hot favourites at 1.22 with Macclesfield 15.0 and the draw is 7.0 at the time of writing.

With the money in the top flight the gulf in class between the Premier League and the rest has grown in recent years – it’s actually even hard to put a figure on the distance between these sides. The gap between the Premier League and National League North is absolutely enormous – we’re not talking about a Championship side here, we’re talking about a sixth-tier outfit with part-time players. Even the gap to the Championship has been huge lately. Brentford will be desperate to avoid becoming the latest Premier League side to be embarrassed here, and it’s highly likely they will take things seriously so we might not see too many changes to their usual XI. They can cover the 1.5 goal handicap on the way to winning, and that’s worth a small investment at around 1.6. I think the Magic of the Cup runs out here for the home side.

The Striker Says:
One point win Brentford -1.5 goals to beat Macclesfield at 1.6 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
