CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TUESDAY: The Ultra previews Tuesday’s Knockout Round games with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Knockout Round
8pm It’s a massive week of Champions League action on Betdaq Betting Exchange! We kick off the second legs of the Knockouts on Tuesday night and we have a fascinating week ahead. Obviously we have some ties that are effectively over – Newcastle and Qarabag a good example of that with Newcastle winning the first leg 6-1 away from home – but we do have some very interesting fixtures as well; notably Inter Milan 3-1 down against Bodo/Glimt, but this time they have home advantage. We also have Atletico Madrid hosting Club Brugge which is 3-3 after the first leg and Bayer Leverkusen host Olympiakos with a 2-0 advantage.
We start Tuesday evening with the early kick off in Madrid with Atletico against Club Brugge. Julian Alvarez and Ademola Lookman – the latter making his Champions League debut for Atletico following his big move from Atalanta – gave Simeone’s side a commanding 2-0 lead at half-time in the first leg but they had a second half to forget as the game finished 3-3. That gives Club Brugge a small chance here, but obviously Atletico come into the game as the red-hot favourites with home advantage. Atletico Madrid are trading 1.39 with Club Brugge 8.4 and the draw is 6.0 at the time of writing. It’s hard to see past Atletico here, but they haven’t been at their best this season – they never got into the La Liga title battle this season and even Villarreal have been ahead of them in third behind Barcelona and Real Madrid. Obviously there is a gulf in class between the sides, but I wouldn’t be rushing to take the 1.39. A better option here is Over 2.5 goals at 1.5 – the first leg was such an open and end-to-end game, it’s hard not to see goals to be honest.
We have four odds on home favourites on Tuesday, and we have two very short prices kicking off at 8pm. Newcastle are 1.15 to beat Qarabag and Inter Milan are 1.26 to beat Bodo/Glimt. Obviously there’s a huge gulf in class between Newcastle and Qarabag, and it’s likely Eddie Howe might choose to rest a few players too given the 6-1 lead. Qarabag have conceded over 40 goals in the Champions League this season, and this one is going to be about how many goals can Newcastle score rather than will they actually win. With plenty of other action on tonight, it’s quite easy to skip over the Newcastle game at such a short price. Nothing jumps off the page; obviously you’d be looking at Newcastle on the handicap, but they just have to get through the 90 minutes without any drama and qualify.
A few more interesting situation is Inter Milan against Bodo/Glimt. This is the tie of the week – and what a turnaround from the narrative we had going into the first legs. Inter were one of the heaviest favourites to progress given the size of Bodo/Glimt, but we had a shock in the first leg! The Norwegian side have been fantastic though – they had beaten Manchester City earlier in the campaign and famously also beat Atletico Madrid in the league phase. That was quite the finish to the Group stage given they were without a win in all their other games! Inter have been exceptionally good in Italy this season, and it will be fascinating to see can they turn things around now. They have an average xG created of 2.08 in Serie A and an average xG conceded sub 1.0 – exceptional figures, but it’s key that they keep a clean sheet tonight, otherwise things could get very messy. I feel Inter can get the job done, but at 1.26 I’m happy to stay out of the market. Bodo/Glimt will surely come here to defend – I wouldn’t have a strong opinion on the goals market.
We finish the night in Germany as Bayer Leverkusen host Olympiakos. A 2-0 Leverkusen win was a slight surprise in the first leg considering they have been quite average away from home this season. Olympiakos now face an enormous task – I actually can’t see them turning things around away from home. Leverkusen at home is a completely different proposition. The German side have historically been very strong at the BayArena in European competition and Schick looks to be in fine goal scoring form. Bayer Leverkusen are trading 1.82 with Olympiakos 4.5 and the draw is 4.2 at the time of writing. Olympiakos obviously have to chase the game here, they have no other choice, and that should open things up for Leverkusen in my opinion. I’m happy with a small bet on the home win at 1.82.
