BETDAQ IMPERIAL VALUE: Carron (WON 10-11) continued Daqman’s winner-a-day run at Newcastle last night. Today he’s looking for BETDAQ value with bull’s-eye bets in the Imperial Cup at Sandown.
TOMORROW: BETDAQ ante-post on the Cheltenham Hot Spots and Festival special bets.
MONDAY: How to find the Cheltenham outsiders.
TUESDAY-FRIDAY: Four fabulous days at the Festival.
CHELTENHAM UPDATE: GALOPIN OUT Galopin des Champs, winner in 2023 and 2024 has been ruled out of next week’s Gold Cup.
RISING STAR SIGNS GOOD
⭕ 1.50 Sandown (EBF Novices’ Hurdle Final) Winners at 28-1 and 33-1 in the last five seasons, with only one winning favourite in the decade.
But Scorpio Rising’s form ties him in with No Drama This End and Top Jimmy (see Imperial Cup). Though up 8lb for an easy win in November, he came clear at Windsor in January to complete a hat-trick. BETDAQ 6.1 taken.
Laguna Beach didn’t jump well here at Sandown but Tennessee Tango has been brought along slowly and done everything asked, with his lovely long stride likely to be effective up the final hill. BETDAQ 17.
IMPERIAL TWIST ON JIMMY
⭕ 2.27 Sandown (Imperial Cup) Go Dante is a special horse at Sandown (form figures 111); no doubt about that.
He broke the sequence of young heroes of the Imperial (five and six year olds) but came to post in peak form when he won it, narrowly each time, aged 8 and 9. I can’t say it’s ‘go’ for the hat-trick.
Go Dante carried just 10st 8lb last year and has been badly out of form this time around, unfancied at 22-1 and 40-1; has had another wind op but the cheekpieces are back on.
Though stablemate Fingle Bridge suppresses the weights, Go Dante has to be first to carry more than 11st 4lb in the decade. The handicapper, so gentle with him so far, raising him only 4lb for each Imperial victory, has now been hard, clipping him just 2lb for those defeats this year.
My number-one last year, Wreckless Eric (second after final-flight mistake) is 8lb better off for half a length, and now tries cheekpieces; Afadil (third) is 8lb better, including his rider’s claim.
But Afadil is hard to win with – seemed to give this race away after the last a year ago – and was receiving 7lb when Star Of Guiting beat him in the Scottish County Hurdle in January; in theory, the five-year-old is the improver.
The handicapper is also hard on Rubber Ball. He was hiked 8lb for winning at Newbury last February, which plunged him into the doldrums for a year but has now done the ‘exact same’ thing: he’s punished him 8lb for repeating his Newbury success.
Mondo Man has shown all his best form on very soft ground. A class act on the Flat (4th in the ‘Ascot Derby’ King Edward V11 Stakes; 5th in the French Derby) but – prone to jumping errors – took six attempts to break his maiden over hurdles, not settling.
Gary Moore has plotted him up for a £100,000 bonus, this race and the County Hurdle at Cheltenham but the value for today has long gone.
Nigel Twiston-Davies has won two Imperials in the decade, the last one at 20-1, and Top Jimmy was third here at Sandown in a race which went to subsequent Challow winner No Drama This End, a short price for his Cheltenham engagements next week.
Betdaq Betting Exchange 13.0 Wreckless Eric, 14.0 Top Jimmy
31.0 A CAMACHO DOUBLE
⭕ 2.05 Wolverhampton Four-year-olds win this sprint and, while Kullazain and Addarella are brought close together by a difference of 16lb, Vingegaard was once a stone better than this field.
Julie Camacho, who won the Lincoln Trial on this card a year ago, was tempted to spend 38,000gns on hopes of reviving something of his old form, not disgraced consecutively in Windsor Castle, Super Sprint (second) and Molecomb.
But she’s got that kind of sales money back and more from Summer winners Solar Acclaim and Winged Messenger. BETDAQ 31.0 (three places 5.6).
⭕ 2.42 Wolverhampton (Lincoln Trial) Andrew Balding has won this twice in the last seven seasons and has booked Oison Murphy for The Lost King, who ran in the Esher Cup (third) and the Britannia as a three-year-old. BETDAQ 6.8.
A gelding op and two runs back at Kempton has straightened him out from his Britannia run (hung left-handed which won’t be a problem at Wolver), finishing nearly six lengths behind the neck second La Botte.
La Botte is top weight today, hasn’t had a run back and his stable is out of form.
The Lost King’s strong traveling stablemate Regal Ulixes has improved 6lb this year and Balding must be the bet. BETDAQ 7.5.
MYSTIC FOR THE MONEY
⭕ 3.35 Sandown Invincible Nao is back on his right mark and could save the Moore’s Mondo Man money, but the nap of the day for me is Calymystic.
A decent hurdler, stepped up over fences travelling strongly at Newbury, first time ridden by Nico De Boinville. BETDAQ 3.6.
