STAR JUMPS STABLES: There’s a big weekend of jumps racing at Newbury and the Grand National meeting at Aintree is just around the corner, so Daqman updates you on the star stables as the season reaches its closing stages.

NEXT WEEK: EARLY BIRDS: Next week’s countdown to the start of the Flat in England includes another stable survey, this time for the likely early birds for the new season.

THE STAR JUMPS STABLES

THE FIVE ACES! In the last jumps weekend before the start of the Flat, check out the star stables over the sticks.

Stars of the season because these five have all improved their position (on prizemoney won) in the trainers’ table over last season’s placing.

01 (from 02) DAN SKELTON 165 wins from 179 (Saturday entries 19)
02 (from 04) NICKY HENDERSON 73 from 76 (Saturday entries 12)
06 (from 12) BEN PAULING 84 from 66 (Saturday entries 6)
07 (from 10) JOE TIZZARD 49 from 69 (Saturday entries 9)
11 (from 21) ANTHONY HONEYBALL 47 from 48 (Saturday entries 2)

Sixth place goes to Harry Derham, who moves up to 13 from 25 with a score of 48 against 57 last season, suggesting the winners came in better races.

This was particularly true of Joe Tizzard, 10th last season, now on the move up to seventh.

His current 49 total is fewer than last year’s 69 yet lifts him three places in the table into the top seven on prizemoney won.

KNOCKING AT THE DOOR

⭕ 2.30 Cork Meanwhile, Willie Mullins, who has given back the English jumps title, is still being headed by Gordon Elliott at home: 167 to 163, with Elliott €370,000 in front for prizemoney won.

I like the look of Lynches Knock for Elliott here. The Leopardstown big-field winner had Cheltenham Fred Winter star Saratoga in third when he was second at Naas in January.

Three lengths behind another subsequent winner Dschingis Desire on the last day. First- time blinkers.

PADDY’S MAGIC THANKYOU

⭕ 3.40 Sedgefield Paul Nicholls pays a rare visit to Sedgefield, where his record is 50% (8-16 ).

Nicholls saddles A King Of Magic, the very first winner for the Paddy Brennan Syndicate.

Paddy, six times Cheltenham festival winning jockey, has his syndicate runners with Dan Skelton, Olly Murphy and Fergal O’Brien.

But he placed King Of Magic with Nicholls in recognition of the trainer’s support as the first to give him a job in England and help him become champion conditional jockey.

Now here’s Paddy supporting Nicholls conditional Freddie Keighley, who has an even better strike rate (3-4 for 75%) at Sedgefield than the guvnor.

FIRST CHANCE TO SHINE

⭕ 4.20 Ludlow In-form Alan King (seven winners in 14 days) has taken his time with the big horse Don’t Mind If I Do, so well regarded that he’s started favourite four races in a row over around 2m.

What is different today is that he finally gets his chance over a longer trip as suggested in his pedigree and by his size.

DESTINY CALLS AT 7.2

⭕ 6.30 Newcastle This class-2 sprint is the quality race of the day! And Beauty Destiny is the quality horse, rated 102 and six times a winner in Hong Kong.

Difficult to know what to expect on his first start for Edward Bethell but the Middleham trainer is getting 100% from his runners, according the Racing Post’s admirable RTF (run-to-form) assessment. Betdaq Betting Exchange 7.2 this morning.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
