FRIDAY IPL: The Edge previews Rajasthan Royals v Royal Challengers Bengaluru with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Rajasthan Royals v Royal Challengers Bengaluru
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We have a cracker from the IPL on Friday as Rajasthan Royals host Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Guwahati on Betdaq Betting Exchange ! This is a blockbuster top of the table clash, and given both sides are unbeaten, you could make a strong argument that this is the match of the tournament so far. It’s also Rajasthan’s final home game at Guwahati before they move to Jaipur. Both sides have started their IPL campaign superbly – Rajasthan are three from three and the Vaibhav Sooryavanshi show has been the story of this IPL. The 15-year-old sensation stole the headlines by smashing 39 off 14 deliveries against Mumbai Indians, including two sixes in one over against Jasprit Bumrah.
We wondered how that clash would go, and Sooryavanshi handled it perfectly against arguably the best bowler in the world. It’s hard to believe he’s only a few days over 15 too! Rajasthan’s bowling has been equally impressive; Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger have been rapid and clinical throughout, and Ravindra Jadeja has added balance and control in the middle overs which they probably lacked before he arrived. RCB are defending champions though, and it will be a good test. They are two from two thus far – they set the tone in the very first game of the season, chasing down 202 to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad, then they hammered CSK – scoring 250/3! All the top order have scored some runs as well, they look in good form.
The one question mark over RCB is Josh Hazlewood, who has not yet featured this season, and the bowling, while effective enough, could be tested here against an in-form Rajasthan batting line-up. This should be a competitive and high quality game.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
The Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati is a home ground for Rajasthan, but they only play a handful of games here per season. We don’t really have a huge sample of data here, so I would go into the game with an open mind on scoring. As I said above, this is actually the last IPL game here this season. Obviously dew is a massive factor to watch for here, but the scores have been in a big range in the opening two games – we had 127 all out (chased) and 150/3 off 11 overs (won). Obviously 11 overs these days, sides tend to just try to smash it around but for the 127 all out, that was CSK who have been poor. We can get spin here; I feel how heavy the dew is will likely decide conditions.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s hard to see anything bar a very competitive game here, so it’s no surprise to see a competitive betting heat. RCB are the favourites though, and I’m not sure I agree with that given how good Rajasthan have been performing. We got a nice price on Rajasthan to beat Mumbai already this week, and I feel we can repeat the feat here. RCB are obviously a massive franchise with a huge fanbase – much like Mumbai Indians – and they can be over-bet. Rajasthan might lack the big stars that RCB have, but they are performing superbly at the moment and I’m happy to take the 2.14.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Both sides have been exceptional with the bat and both have pace and power throughout their order. This could be a very high scoring game should we get good batting conditions. I wouldn’t just go into the game expecting a 200+ score though based on the first game here. Watch the first few overs and get a read on conditions is the best in-running advice here in my opinion. The Sooryavanshi vs whoever opens for RCB matchup in the powerplay should be fascinating theatre, but from a trading perspective, probably not one to get involved in. If we get dew, I’d happily support both batting line-ups – I do feel Rajasthan have the better bowling though!
