DAQMAN NAP AND TREBLE UP: Daqman landed a fourth winning nap in six days with a 5-4 strike at Newbury yesterday, which was also the kingpin of a treble across three cards.

Yesterday: profit on the day 17.17
WON 5-4 NAVAL TRIBUTE (nap)
WON 4-5 KING OF EARTH
WON 1-6 MRAIR

🎩 HEAVY RAIN AT EPSOM: About 20mm of rain from 3 a.m. today changed the going at Epsom for Friday’s Oaks and Saturday’s Derby to ‘the better side of good to soft,’ with showers – some heavy – in the forecast.

THE BOX-CLEVER DERBY BET

The odds-on favourite enters the ring. The crowd roars for the playboy champion, who is said to train on girls and champagne.

But 80 years ago on June 13, ‘madcap’ Max Baer lost his world title to James J Braddock, the Cinderella Man. It’s the story of the underdog who wouldn’t lie down.

In the Derby Trial at Leopardstown last month, James J Braddock, the racehorse, refused to give in when three lengths behind inside the final furlong, and he led Pierre Bonnard right on the line.

Just like some of the crowd ringside at Madison Square Garden, racegoers refused to believe what they were seeing and Pierre Bonnard remains the shorter price of the two when they meet again at Epsom on Saturday.

In the film, Cinderella Man, my personal Oscar for best performance went to Braddock’s manager, played by Paul Giamatti.

Saturday’s ‘manager’, Joseph O’Brien, must have his outsider ready in the wake of the 1-2-3 by his father, Aidan, in the French Derby on Sunday, when Joseph’s runner was fourth.

It’s a daunting task, with Aidan leaving seven in Saturday’s race, including the favourite, Benvenuto Cellini, son of the greatest racehorse champion of them all, Frankel.

‘Cellini,’ who won the Chester Vase, was third in last year’s Doncaster Futurity to French Derby runner-up, Hawk Mountain, after easily winning a Killarney maiden, when the second horse home was Endorsement.

Endorsement was third after leading the Leopardstown Derby Trial field, losing out in that finish of James J Braddock and Pierre Bonnard.

It reads not like a knockout more a points decision come Saturday, and I’ll have more to say about that later in the week

COOL TO TAKE THE BISCUIT

⭕ 3.48 Pontefract, today: Mr Cool must surely be in at the finish, dropped back to 6f, and 10lb and 5lb lower than his two winning marks at the trip.

In fact, Jack Callan’s claim takes the four-year-old further down the handicap, nearly stone lower than for his Ripon strike last June. Betdaq Betting Exchange 9.7 taken.

The Good Biscuit, also claimed off, is 140012 at Pontefract and would welcome any rain. He won back to back on soft in the autumn. BETDAQ 5.5

⭕ 5.30 Southwell No reason why we shouldn’t follow Dan Skelton as he knocks in the winners (nine of his favourites have scored since May 19). Beorma napped today after trotting up when tongue-tied five days ago.

CALL TIME ON CURRIE PLOT

⭕ 9.00 Wolverhampton: Nicola Currie, 33 today, likes to line up a winner for her birthday. Her record is one dead-heat and one outright winner (last year) turning over the odds-on favourite.

The one-time champion AW apprentice rides Age Of Time, four times placed over his current mark, including over today’s CD for his previous stable. Was he put right for this yesterday?

Age Of Time finished well over a shorter trip on Monday under Dougie Costello and new trainer, Steph Hollinshead, takes the unusual step of running him again today at 14.0 this morning in BETDAQ offers.

The danger, and first choice in the absence of Age Of Time, is Silkies Sib, reunited with Cieran Fallon, who scored on him here on Boxing Day off today’s mark. BETDAQ 5.4

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
