BREEDERS’ CUP 2012: The action starts tonight and DAQMAN has a race-by-race guide, including selections, for each of the Championship races from Santa Anita. Betting available on BETDAQ for all the Breeders’ Cup races.

JUMPS NAP: He hasn’t forgotten about the domestic action though and stays this side of the Pond for his nap at Uttoxeter.

We’ll focus on the events Stateside tonight for the first day of the 2012 Breeders’ Cup meeting. The meeting, of course, is now a two day feast (since 2007) and organisers have had luck on their side with having a West Coast venue this year after the wreckage caused by Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast of the country this week.

The venue also hosts the Breeders’ Cup in 2013 and the track consists of a one-mile natural dirt main track which rings a turf course measuring 9/10 of a mile. In addition, it has an unusual hillside turf course which crosses the dirt and is used mainly to run turf races at a distance of “about” 6½ furlongs.

8:06 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint (Dirt) (2yo, 6f, 7 runners) The two unbeaten runners are likely to dominate the BETDAQ market. Merit Man slammed another of today’s rivals, South Floyd, by six lengths last time out over course and distance and should be able to follow up here and have too much speed for Super Ninety Nine who won on his debut here but that came over seven furlongs. SELECTION: Merit Man

8:46 Breeders’ Cup Marathon (Grade 2) (Dirt) (3yo+, Class 1, 1m 6f, 14 runners) Two Irish raiders Fame And Glory (Aidan O’Brien) and Sense Of Purpose (Dermot Weld) are likely to figure prominently over a trip which is considered an extremity for the home challengers and for many unchartered waters. I’m not really sure about Fame And Glory at the moment. He hasn’t shown much sparkle since winning his pipe-opener at Navan earlier in the season and is being tried on the dirt for the first time tonight. Worth Repeating is in good form and a winner over 1m 4f here and I fancy him to handle the step-up in trip under jockey Martin Pedroza. SELECTION: Worth Repeating

9:28 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (Grade 1) (2yo, Class 1, 1m, 16 runners) The first of the turf races tonight predictably brings a much stronger representation from English and Irish trainers. Heading up the challenge is the Richard Hannon trained Sky Lantern, likely to be sent off the favourite on BETDAQ. She won the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes with ease at the Curragh last time out. My worry is that she has had a relatively hard season, the ground will be quicker, and I prefer Spring Venture who has won all three of her starts at Woodbine, Canada. SELECTION: Spring Venture

10:08 Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (Grade 1) (Dirt) (2yo, Class 1, 1m 110y, 8 runners) Executiveprivilege is unbeaten in five and will be many peoples idea of the banker of the meeting. She romped home over course and distance to win the Grade 1 Oak Leaf in style. Todd Pletcher’s two runners Dreaming Of Julia and Kauai Katie however are both unbeaten in three starts and my bet will be to have equal stakes on both of them in an attempt to get the favourite beaten. SELECTION: Split stakes on Dreaming Of Julia and Kauai Katie

10:48 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (Grade 1) (3yo+, Class 1, 1m 2f, 12 runners) We’re back on the turf and there’s a massive European challenge which I think will be successful – it’s just sorting out which one. I’m keen on the chances of the French trained Ridasiyna who was impressive on Arc day beating John Gosden’s Izzi Top comfortably in the Group 1 Prix De L’Opera. The ground will be quicker here but Ridasiyna has winning form on good ground. She looks capable of further improvement and can again account for a Gosden trained runner, this time the Nassau Stakes winner The Fugue. SELECTION: Ridasiyna

11:30 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (Fillies’ Grade 1) (Dirt) (3yo+, Class 1, 1m 1f, 8 runners) Incredible line-up for this race but from a punting perspective it’s a really trappy but exciting finale. A speculative wager is advised on My Miss Aurelia who has yet to taste defeat. There’s a late injury scare on Royal Delta who has needed stitches after an injury in transit. SELECTION: My Miss Aurelia
