PREVIEW

Ferrari will arrive in Germany full of confidence following Fernando Alonso’s impressive victory at Silverstone. After a year absence the F1 action returns to the ‘New’ Nurburgring where drivers must be at their technical best to negotiate their way around the tricky circuit.

With his triumph in Britain, Alonso is now 12 points behind Mark Webber and 92 behind Sebastian Vettel at the top. Another strong performance here and the Ferrari team will feel they are in with a chance to overhaul the runaway Championship leader.

Red Bull still finished second and third at Silverstone, which kept Vettel’s record of finishing on the podium in every Grand Prix this season intact. However, tensions in the Red Bull team were once again making the headlines after Mark Webber was denied an opportunity to overtake his colleague on the final lap.

Vettel has assumed Michael Schumacher’s role of the German driving idol with this breathtaking performances over the past few seasons. He’ll be well supported throughout the weekend and will be desperate to put on a show for the locals.

From a British perspective, the McLaren team seems to be a little off the mark and mistakes have cost Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button dearly. Both drivers will no doubt push all the way, but they are facing an uphill challenge to get ahead of Red Bull and Ferrari.

All eyes will be on the weather forecast in Germany as the early signs across Northern Europe are for unsettled conditions. Interestingly, Fernando Alonso won last year’s German Grand Prix and at around 3.95 on the ‘Daq’ he looks a good shout to win back-to-back titles. The Spaniard also took the checkered flag back in 2007 and 2005.

Mark Webber has also had recent success at the German Grand Prix and after his efforts in the last race he is in an excellent position to finish on the podium on Sunday.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back Alonso to win at 3.95: 4 points
