PREVIEW
Tottenham’s kick-off this weekend’s Premier League action later today at White Hart Lane as they welcome Newcastle to north London.
Andre Villas-Boas has admitted he isn’t sure whether Emmanuel Adebayor will line up for Spurs after the Togo striker said he was ‘exhausted’ after returning from Africa Cup of Nations duty. That, combined with Jermain Defoe’s recent injury means it’s likely that the hosts will start without a recognised striker on the pitch.
We have seen in recent games – Tottenham have failed to score more than one goal in their last five matches – how much they are struggling up top and Villas-Boas may regret not being able to get another striker in during the January transfer window as the club battle to hold onto a top four spot.
They look vulnerable against a Newcastle side, inspired by their recent signings, who are looking for a third win on the bounce.
There were many jokes flying around when Alan Pardew seemingly tried to buy the whole of France during the transfer window but, having not displayed anything like the form this term that saw them finish 5th last season and with an increasingly bare looking squad, the Magpies manager had to splash the cash.
New signing Moussa Sissoko has had an immediate effect on the side, putting in really strong displays in their recent wins over Aston Villa and Chelsea – indeed he chipped in with a brace in that 3-2 defeat of the Blues last weekend – and he can inspire the Tynesiders to a another win today.
