DAY THREE IRISH BETS FROM SHAMROCK: Our tipster again goes race by race through the best Irish trained runners on day three of the Cheltenham Festival.
Started well, struggled halfway, pulled up towards end.
That was my tipping performance yesterday which started nicely with 9/4 winner Back In Focus. Later we got a place with Lyreen Legend (2nd 10/1) in the RSA Chase and a place from Sizing Europe but the rest of the day proved disappointing. It takes some doing this week to nap a Willie Mullins trained favourite that gets BEATEN but Pont Alexandra’s bubble was burst when a well beaten third to The New One in the Neptune.
The only other note on yesterday (with that wonderful thing called hindsight) was how Briar Hill was allowed to be sent off at 25/1 in the closing bumper? You would have thought that W P Mullins and R Walsh next to his name on the racecard would never have allowed that SP !!
Anyway, time to crack on with day three……
1:30 Jewson Novices’ Chase (Registered As The Golden Miller Novices’ Chase) (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 13 runners) A strong Irish challenge in the opener but the home trained favourite Dynaste is clearly the one to beat. Argocat sauntered home by eight lengths at Limerick in a Grade 2 despite hitting the last fence and is recommended on the BETDAQ place market at around 11/2.

2:05 Pertemps Final (Listed Handicap Hurdle) (5yo+, Class 1, 3m, 24 runners) Wow a race WITHOUT a Willie Mullins trained runner! Stonemaster looks interesting win and place for trainer Dessie Hughes and Davy Russell onboard. Stonemaster ran well here in the Coral Cup last year and was last seen when third at Leopardstown over Christmas.

2:40 Ryanair Chase (Registered As The Festival Trophy Chase) (Grade 1) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 5f, 8 runners) A strong Irish sole representative in First Lieutenant who by-passes tomorrow’s Gold Cup in favour of this. He always runs well at Cheltenham and is a versatile performer trip wise. He looks the solid bet of the day.

3:20 Ladbrokes World Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 3m, 13 runners) If you need a reminder that there’s no Big Buck’s this year – just look at the BETDAQ market – 5.3 the field !! The door is now fully open and you may need to not look further than the top one on the racecard, Bog Warrior, who comes into the race in cracking form. He has done better since switching back to hurdles from chasing – just like Mr Buck’s did!

4:00 Byrne Group Plate (Grade 3 Handicap Chase) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 5f, 23 runners) Sweet My Lord is only a tentative choice for the in form team and is much preferred to the only other Irish trained runner Casey Top.

4:40 Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Handicap Chase (Amateur Riders) (5yo+, Class 2, 3m 1f 110y, 24 runners) Again, it’s a speculative place bet – this time on Vesper Bell who is consistent and has place form at Grade 1 level to his name.

5:15 Glenfarclas Handicap Chase (Cross Country) (5yo+, Class 2, 3m 7f, 16 runners) There’s a second inspection been called for this afternoon. My selection earlier in the week for this was Arabella Boy.
