PREVIEW
Chelsea are bidding to become only the fourth club to win all three of UEFA’s major European titles. Having landed the now defunct Cup Winners’ Cup and the Champions League, the Europa League is the last on their list and the Blues will bid to put one foot in the final when they travel to FC Basel later.
Basel knocked out Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham on penalties in the last round and proved in both legs they were no mugs. Chelsea made hard work of their quarter-final against Rubin Kazan, having to negotiate a late scare in Russia, and haven’t really impressed at all in this tournament, losing their last two trips on the road.
With Demba Ba ineligible, Fernando Torres will be the man up front but the much-maligned Spaniard has found his feet in this competition, hitting four goals in his last three appearances. Ashley Cole and Gary Cahill return to the squad after injury which is a boost for a side that has conceded in all but one of their six Europa league games.
The Swiss champions have already proved they are a handful and boast a formidable record at St. Jakob-Park. It’s a little bit of a surprise to see them underdogs at around 3.1 on BETDAQ. The visitors are 2.46 but that doesn’t appeal and the banker bet is both teams to score at around 1.74 on BETDAQ.
The hosts have scored at least two goals in every home game of this tournament and Chelsea have enough quality to hit an away goal.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back both teams to score at around 1.74 on BETDAQ: 7 points
