NAAS ON BANK HOLIDAY: Shamrock’s nap was second yesterday but there was damage limitation as the next best selection LADY GISELLE WON at 6/4. It’s a Bank Holiday in Ireland and I’m looking at the three Listed races on the Naas card.
I was disappointed with the nap yesterday, Marchese Marconi, who finished second.
He drifted quite significantly pre-race and had no answers for Fleur De Nuit in the closing stages.
We’re running winning NAP then a losing one at the moment (WLWLW2) so hopefully back with a winner today, a Bank Holiday in Ireland.
The NAPS sequence now reads:
WWW22W6WWWW2LWWWWLWWF223WLFWWWWLWLW2

* On missing days there was either no Irish racing OR the NAP was a non runner
Today, we head to Naas for the three Listed races:
3:05 Owenstown Stud Stakes (Listed) (3yo+, Class 1, 7f, 14 runners)
A big field for this seven furlong contest but I thought Ghaamer was of interest, trading at around 6.6 on BETDAQ. The price looks ludicrously generous considering the trainer has said he will be better on the faster ground he gets today – but there is one negative – the draw. He has been dealt 14 of 14 which is far from ideal here. I’m willing to take that chance and there was a lot to like about his maiden win at Cork.
4:05 Alfred Nobel Rochestown (C & G) Stakes (Listed) (2yo, Class 1, 6f, 4 runners)
At around 1.9 it has to be Stubbs for me here. He’s pretty much at the top of my notebook horses. He ran well in the opening race of the season – the Tally Ho Stakes at the Curragh – to finish third to Saburo and then bolted home to win his maiden at Navan. The extra furlong and better ground here should both be treated as positives. Nap.
4:35 Coolmore Stud Fillies’ Sprint Stakes (Listed) (2yo, Class 1, 6f, 11 runners)
The three English raiders can all be given strong chances and coupled they will be at short odds to steal this prize. Richard Fahey’s Sandiva, in particular, could be anything after her scintillating debut success at Nottingham. However, I think Glassatura, win and place, for Mick Halford is a tempting bet. She was a 33/1 shock winner at the Curragh on debut which crucially came over today’s conditions of 6f and good to firm ground. She should improve significantly and play a big role in this better company.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Stubbs (4.05 Naas)
NEXT BEST: Ghaamer (3.05 Naas)
WIN AND PLACE: Glassatura (4.35 Naas)
