DAQMAN HITS THE WIRE AT 18.0 ON BETDAQ: Daqman missed out on the Galway Hurdle by a neck at 18.0 BETDAQ odds and named the third at 17.0 with just the two bull’s-eye bets but landed a double and a two-year-old winner as yet another massive closer on the exchange (by more than 50%):

WON 4-1 BARRAQUERO (BETDAQ 9.6 taken)
WON 5-2 ENDLESS TIME (doubles)
WON 10-11 WINTER (doubles)
2ND 8-1 SWAMP FOX (18.0 on BETDAQ)
3RD 9-1 AIRLIE BEACH (from 17.0 on BETDAQ)

DAQMAN’S 287-POINT LEAD ON PRICEWISE: Pricewise failed to score again, and the two Daqman places on the Galway Hurdle made him a win-and-place profit on the race, so worth a point. The scores of Daqman 62, Pricewise 10, contain a 287-point lead for our man over his Racing Post rival.

* Pricewise races today: 1.50 and 3.00 Goodwood, and 6.50 Galway

HE’S LORD OF THE RAIN DANCE..

Rain didn’t change BETDAQ value. In fact, it was enhanced yesterday. If you were on in the morning, taking an early position, you had around double the SP, as my own results show, which means you could have played the race and hardly failed to score.

It will still be pretty soft today, though a dry day with sunshine at Goodwood means the ground should not deteriorate any further as a whole, but parts of the track will be churned up where races have been run in that side.

Low numbers continued to do well yesterday (stalls 1 twice, 3, 4 and 6 scored) but, in not such a big field for the King George sprint, jockeys will be picking their ground where they can.

1.50 Goodwood Frontiersman has kept well away from soft ground. His only try with cut in the ground was at this Group-3 level last October when he was out of the frame at Newbury on good to soft.

Similarly, Poets Word has twice been beaten on good to soft, with turf success only on firm.

Scarlet Dragon has won on an easy surface but is a handicapper and, when he tried a Listed contest, was behind Snoana, albeit over two furlong less on a fast surface at Royal Ascot.

The improver is Lord Yeats, 7.0 on BETDAQ this morning.. He’s won on the soft and goes with the pace, so should be suited by the track. The handicapper says he’s a 25lb better horse than this time last year.

He outbattled Second Step at Newmarket five weeks ago and Yorkshire trainer Jedd O’Keefe deserves reward at a top southern track. If only his yard was in a bit better form (0-15), you could have a punt.

STABLE CONFIDENCE IN ZAINHOM

2.25 Goodwood You haven’t got years of form with which to assess these three-year-olds for soft-ground ability.

Make Time, who has raced only four imes, won his maiden on soft but was behind Zainhom, when that one was third in Barney Roy’s Greenham.

Zainhom was then behind Escobar at Sandown and Escobar was also ran with Beat The Bank in the Jersey Stakes before ‘Bank’ beat Forest Ranger at Newmarket.

Unfortunately, all that stacking up of collateral form was in races run on top of the ground or even faster.

Escobar, Forest Ranger and Zainhom are all hold up hoses and, in this reduced field, Make Time (BETDAQ 4.4), officially improved 12lb since the Barney Roy race, has on his side the ability to travel well and no ferar of taking them on early.

Jockey Andrea Atzeni has already had four winners at the glorious meeting this week and clearly knows the tricks of the Goodwood track.

Zainhom (6.0 offers) is still a big danger if home reports can be believed, that he’s now overcome niggling problems and will revel in the ground.

BINGO! CALL HOUSE ON THE SOFT

3.00 Goodwood Mile You need a rating of 99 or higher (seven wins out of nine), which lops off t he bottom six, and there are four ‘nonners;’ above those.

Blair House, deservedly 7.0 favourite on BETDAQ, was half a length off Zhui Feng in only his first run of the season for the Royal Hunt Cup on the fast Ascot surface, has won with cut and is a son of the soft-ground sire Pivotal.

G K Chesterton was well adrift that day but has won twice on the soft, and his style is perfect for Goodwood. His problem as a front-runner is his draw in 14.

Gm Hopkins has been back in top form and has the one stall. Your problem this time is whether he’ll start with the others.

Master The World looks attractive from gate 3 but is 7lb above his highest winning mark, which was way back two years ago.

A tasty 15.0 offer on BETDAQ, Withernsea, who found Ascot too fast, loves it soft and served notice in last week’s International that he needs a mile now. Handy stall seven.

Tony Curtis is next door in 6 but is very hard to win with – a loser for two years now – and has tried trips between 7f and 1m 2f in that time, which suggests he lacks finish.

Greenside could step up – won on soft – but a six-year-old with only six turf runs spells training problems.

WHICH SPRINT BET IS PROFITABLE?

3.35 Goodwood (King George Stakes) Will the big improver Battaash go in the ground? Charlie Hills thinks he will but, strangely, the race is a graveyard for three-year-olds

I say ‘strangely’ because it had a time 30-odd years ago when second-season animals were eight from nine, but they then raced in July! They don’t get much allowance in sprints now that August is here.

Marsha is enjoying the same concession as a four-year-old filly but is unraced on softer than good.

So it’s a question of whether Battaash can handle the ground and can handle Profitable, Kings Stand winner on soft last year. Do you risk the short price Profitable or hte better offers Battaash, with the 5.5 on BETDAQ this morning accounting for the worry abut the surface?

MINE’S A DOUBLE WHISKEY, BOYS

6.50 Galway (Guinness Handicap) Fiesole has been in excellent form this summer but all on a sound surface. His form with cut in the ground since coming over to Ireland is 003F03. On good or good to firm: 0012112.

Ger Lyons (Mawaany) has had a poor week. We don’t know whether Haripour will cope with the ground. Sweet Company swaps a good for cheekpieces.

I’m sticking to the form of Whiskey Sour and Swamp Fox which has given me pleasure and profit this week. I took 3.95 about my 16-1 sweet and Sour winner of the opening day. So, it’s a double Whiskey!

7.10 Bath Since being gelded, Pivoine he has looked a different horse at home and there was an early run on him in the market. The opposition looks weak and, with better ground at Bath for risking the nap, I took 3.6 on BETDAQ this morning
