NINE OUT OF 10 PLACED BUT AT LEAST ONE WON: The picture on this page (removed by the censor) would have shown Daqman in his bridesmaid outfit! The form figures that won him the dubious bouquet were: 2222312223. That’s three days’ tipping which finally ended in a ‘0’ yesterday after 10 races with nine in the first three, just one winning.

NICHOLLS FAVOURITES IN BRIDESMAID SEQUENCE It’s that time of year, and one of the sufferers is champion trainer Paul Nicholls who, apart from watching his former assistant Dan Skelton leading the table, is having bridesmaid sequences of his own, the most recent one – 422327, five of them favourite – revealed by Daqman here.

NOT SO WORTHY FAVOURITES

You Only Live Once. Yolo, the hip-hop band (You Only Live Once) run their horse, Worthy Farm (1.25 Warwick today), named after the Pilton site of the Glastonbury Festival, and trained not a million miles away at Ditcheat by Paul Nicholls.

I don’t want to put my foot through the big bass drum and hobble their hip-hop but Nicholls is a hard act to bet on right now..

They’ll win in time. Nicholls’ headlined November stars have contained some serious damp squibs, with more seconds than Daqman!

Don’t worry; it’s par for the course at this time of year, but don’t be in a hurry to follow Ditcheat until the strike rate improves (2-22 in November):

4TH 15-8 favourite Copain de Classe, Wetherby, Nov 2
2ND 5-4 favourite Black Corton, Wetherby Nov 3
2ND 15-8 Old Guard, Wetherby, Nov 3
3RD evens favourite Cyrname, Carlisle Nov 4
2ND 13-8 favourite Posh Trish, Newbury Nov 8
7TH 11-4 favourite Kapcorse, Newbury Nov 8

It’s the time of year. When 80-1 L’Es Fremantle won at Market Rasen yesterday, he traded 450 in running before he overhauled long-time leader Follow The Swallow, who was matched at the minimum 1.01. More strange results common to the early stages of the Jumps season proper.

That’s a very long time. Though the going at Rasen was officially returned as good, and he weather fine, the race times were consistently slow as the proverbial carthorse, so the ‘form’ may mean absolutely nothing at all.

Race times were ‘slow 32.90 secs, slow 40.50 secs, slow 35.10 secs, slow 37 secs, slow 36.60, and slow 31.50’.

Always time for BETDAQ. Despite defeats for three consecutive favourites, Market Rasen bookies were 118% overround in the fourth and, despite L’Es Fremantle’s 80-1 shocker, were immediately afterwards 120% in the last. This on a day when Daqman’s column recorded 105% and 106% morning BETDAQ orange totals.

KALASHNIKOV TARGETS THE TOP

2.00 Warwick Some decent sorts – Somersby, Vibrato Valtat – have won this novices chase but the word is that the one already being called this year’s winner (that’s how confident connections are) will go right to the top.

Kalashnikov, runner-up in the Supreme Novice Hurdle, and already favourite for the Arkle, is the hub of a Daq Multiples treble today.

2.30 Warwick Finley’s Eyes (3.1 BETDAQ offers) was beaten only a neck in a novice hurdle on the last day. His first handicap mark today looks high but that’s because he’s in a lower-grade race, which trainer Dan Skelton won with one off a similar mark last year (just a pound lower, in fact). He’s 50% in this type of race on the track.

BETDAQ ambassador Harry Whittington admits to being excited about Djin Conti (9.8), who has been freshened up for his handicap launch today.

Mick Thonic has been dropped a stone below his chase mark of a year or so ago, and two recent Wincanton runs over hurdles have been decent enough for this level.

3.15 Hexham Sue Smith’s Dartford Warbler, a winner over 3m here in June, has just 4lb more and may be lucky and get the same kind of ground. Had a run back from a break a fortnight ago over shorter. BETDAQ 9.8.

Last year’s winner, Frank The Slink, was also 11 when he scored. His win and earlier second at Hexham came with first-time cheekpieces, then first-time tongue tie.

Combining these aids in September didn’t work and he was beaten a country mile on the last day.

6.45 Newcastle William Haggas is striking at 50% in handicaps on the Tapeta at Newcastle, and Island Of Life caught the eye at Kempton after her wind ops.

Play Mate didn’t manage the extra furlong at Ayr but could be involved, back sprinting here and with cheekpieces first time.

Twilight is four out of six, up 23lb, beaten only when stepped up to a mile and when tried here at Newcastle, which makes the Tapeta a worry today.
