BULL’S-EYE FOR AUSSIE GENIUS: Daqman follows the fantastic form of Aussie trainer Chris Waller, dubbed The Genius by newspapers Down Under. Daqman’s taken 21.0 and 31.0 about his big two runners on BETDAQ in win-50 Bull’s-Eye Bets (current profit 208 points).

X FACTOR IN BIG-RACE ABC: The Waller pair tick all the boxes in Daqman’s famous horse-by-horse big-race ABC check, which contains the X Factor, a bias for the low numbers from the Flemington barrier.

BANKER BET AT PLUMPTON: This afternoon’s bets in England include a banker at Plumpton, intended to make all the running on its reappearance.

20-1 BARMAN TO BOSS THE MELBOURNE CUP

A Group/Graded winner (10/10)
B Ran last 17 days (9/10)
C Carries 8st 5lb to 8st 11lb (8/10)
D Age four to six (18/20)
X Factor: From 2 to 14 barrier (15 out of 20)

4 a.m. Tuesday FLEMINGTON (MELBOURNE CUP) 2m turf

Chris Waller is a genius. That’s not me talking but the Press in Australia. Waller trained two Group-1 winners at Flemington on Saturday, including the Victoria Derby, which puts him on 40, seven of them this Australian season, which is only three months old and has nearly 50 Group 1s left.

Waller has never won the big ’uns (Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup). But the bandwagon rolls back to Flemington tomorrow with two which tick all the boxes in my ABC check on the big-race stats: Who Shot Thebarman 21.0, ridden by Glen Boss, and Junoob at 31.0 under Hugh Bowman.

A third Waller contender, Opinion (62.0), a Royal Ascot handicap winner for Sir Michael Stoute, hasn’t won a Group race but took the 2m Sydney Cup at Randwick last season and was back there recently, runner-up to Junoob in the prestigious Metropolitan.

ABCDX JUNOOB

An incredible rise through the ranks from winning an AW claimer at Kempton Park for Tom Dascombe to Group-1 fame in Australia, big-time Metropolitan winner at Randwick and a couple of lengths off Admire Rakti in the Caulfield Cup.

ABCDX LIDARI

Sixth to Admiral Raki in the Caulfield Cup and unexposed at this trip. Ticks all the boxes. Dual French winner at 12f, back up in distance for the first time at Caulfield.

ABCDX LUCIA VALENTINA

Beat Lidari at Flemington and third in the Caulfield Cup. As a one-time 7f winner, the Cup trip looks daunting. But has only been on the racecourse for a year

ABCDX SEISMOS

Seems to have fluked a prominent position in this ABC guide. Marco Botti’s Geoffrey Freer winner at Newbury in August struggled in the Caulfield Cup and form at 2m-plus is 0000

ABCDX WHO SHOT THEBARMAN

Back-to-back wins at Flemington this Spring (that’s autumn to you in England!) and, though unsighted behind Admire Rakti in the Caulfield Cup, has won at 2m in New Zealand, and is related to Derby, Oaks and Cup winners

ABCD BRAMBLES

New Zealand ace who won the Queensland Derby (2012) but missed out last year through injury. Ran really well, fourth in the Caulfield Cup in October, then took in the Mackinnon on Saturday. Has never raced this far.

ABDX ADMIRE RAKTI

Lightly raced (only 12 runs though aged six), first Japanese horse to win the Caulfield Cup but would also be first since 1975 to carry 9st 3lb. Kicks like a mule, and wears warning ribbon on his tail.

ABDX PROTECTIONIST

Only nine races to date, never out of the first four, including at Caulfield recently, but needs some cut in the ground and forecast sunshine does not please globetrotting German trainer Wohler. The mount of Ryan Moore.

ABD SEA MOON

Beat the 2011 winner, Dunaden, at Royal Ascot in 2012, when trained Sir Michael Stoute but, though a winner at Flemington and Caulfield, was only 13th in the Cup last year. Wears blinkers first time tomorrow.

ABD SIGNOFF

Started racing only in September, third to brambles at Flemington. Big leap forward in first-time blinkers to take the Lexus there on Saturday over a horse who was three lengths off the winner in the Caulfield Cup.

ABX FAWKNER

Last year’s Caulfield Cup winner went on to finish sixth in the Melbourne Cup. Back to form at Caulfield in early October before the ‘moral’, giving weight to the winner, Adelaide, in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley 10 days ago. Big chance despite his weight.

ACDX MY AMBIVALENT

Won the Pretty Polly at the Curragh last season and the Middleton at York this, but tomorrow is a step up in trip and the mare has done best against her own sex.

ACDX PRECEDENCE

Trained by 86-year-old Bart Cummings (12 times Melbourne Cup winner) and his grandson, James, in equine terms Precedence is almost as old. Ninth in the Cup last year.

ACD GATEWOOD

10 consecutive races in the first three but has struggled to break out of Group-3 and best form with cut in the ground.

ACD MUTUAL REGARD

Johnny Murtagh has booked Aussie ace rider Damien Oliver for his Ebor winner. This is a big step up from a class-2 handicap but he’s from a family which improve with age.

ACX ROYAL DIAMOND

Long Distance Cup winner at Ascot’s champions meeting last autumn and runner-up twice to dual Gold Cup winner, Leading Light. But at veteran stage now for Johnny Murtagh.

AX CAVALRYMAN

Only 12th in this race in 2012 but the Godolphin veteran won the Goodwood Cup in August, with the Lonsdale Cup winner second, Irish St Leger hero third and Northumberland Plate scorer fifth.

He is the subject of a late injury scare, however, as it was revealed this morning that he is a doubt for the race with some swelling in the fetlock.

A MR O’ CEIRIN

Expect some early speed from this much-travelled seven-year-old, who needs all the aids (tongue-tie, visor) and looks well out of his depth.

A RED CADEAUX

Grand English veteran, second twice: by a nose to Dunaden (2011) then, when written off by all bar trainer Ed Dunlop after a moderate 2013, was less than a length off the winner last year, Fiorente.

BCDX OPINION

Listed level but, though second in Sydney Cup (Randwick 2m) last year, kept to shorter distance since. Second to Junoob at Randwick recently.

BCD ARALDO

Specially prepared for this after being sent from Germany to stable’s of 2000 winning trainer Mike Moroney. Good vibes from third to Junoob at Randwick and Caulfield Cup fifth, but drawn wide.

BCD AU REVOIR

First ever runner in the race for French master trainer Andre Fabre. Listed winner, fourth to Ruler Of The World and Flintshire in the Prix Foy. Finished close up on first Aussie run in the Moonee Valley Cup.

BX UNCHAIN MY HEART

Stays well but usually out the back. First-time visors need to improve her a stone and a half at eight years of age!

C WILLING FOE

Another veteran from the luckless Godolphin, who have had three runners-up in this race. Second to Seismos in the Geoffrey Freer, so at least he knows how to be runner-up.

GO TOTHEMOONANDBACK FOR THE BANKER

It’s a Henderson day. Lambourn Nicky has landed 11 winners on this card in recent years and, with his current record 16 out of 20 in the first four still standing, looks like adding to that tally via Call the Cop and Barry Geraghty at Kempton this afternoon.

Call The Cops (2.35) goes well fresh, whereas his principal opponent, Brother Brian, is 204 after his breaks and has looked more at home on a tough or undulating track (wins at Cheltenham and Newbury), not so good on a flat course.

A bigger worry is Royal Regatta, with the Hobbs yard absolutely flying; Menorah another for them on Saturday. If you delete Cheltenham from Regatta’s profile, he is 111 in England, with a win-win record the two occasions he has raced when fresh.

The word on the ground for Plumpton is that Tothemoonandback (2.25) will rocket round on his reappearance for the local Moore family, who farm this track.

Slightly better than evens on BETDAQ for a banker stake this morning. The opposition looks weak enough to see the grey start odds on.

DAQMAN’S BETS
BANKER: BET 20pts win (nap) TOTHEMOONANDBACK (2.25 Plumpton)
BET 6pts win CALL THE COPS and 4.4pts win ROYAL REGATTA (2.35 Kempton)
BULL’S-EYE BETS (win 50): 2.5pts win WHO SHOT THEBARMAN and 1.6pts win JUNOOB (4 a.m. Flemington, Tuesday)
