PLANS FOR THE 24 FORTUNE COOKIES: Today is the last update of the year on Daqman’s Fortune Cookies, 24 horses to follow until the big meetings in December and January will decide which will go forward as his top 10 or 12 for the festivals of Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown.
LOOK OUT FOR THE HENNESSY WINNER: Daqman is five bankers out of five as he starts the week, and 2-1 up on Pricewise with the Hennessy Gold Cup coming up on Saturday. So short shots and long shots, he’ll be working for you.
DAQMAN MONDAY: Today sees the eagerly awaited chasing debut of last season’s top novice hurdler Altior at Kempton but at 1.16 DAQMAN is looking elsewhere for some value. He has selections from all three of the day’s meetings including an early banker at Kempton.
COOKIES HAVE GIVEN US TWO BANKERS
No fortune yet but we’ve picked the right ones. The two winners from seven Fortune Cookie starters were both bankers in this column, the only bankers among the 24 horses to follow so far.
Before Christmas, there are likely runners in the Drinmore, the Tingle Creek, the Becher Chase and the Hattons Grace Hurdle. Then, of course, there are a plethora of possibilities for the King George. We’ll update the column again after that.

LOCK ONTO LOUGH AT KEMPTON
12.55 Kempton The opening race at Kempton looks a hot little contest with a host of promising individuals locking horns. Lough Derg Spirit was a good winner of his second point-to-point start for Denis Paul Murphy and was subsequently sold to the Nicky Henderson stable for £190,000. The third placed horse that day has franked the form since with a win of his own and Lough Derg Spirit could be a smart recruit. The market seems to prefer his chances to his stablemate Silverhow who has some fair hurdle form to his name. Coup De Pinceau and Zipple Back both have some smart bumper form and have to be feared but ready preference is for Lough Derg Spirit to make a winning debut for the yard and can be backed around the 3.1 mark on BETDAQ.
2.00 Kempton A competitive listed mares hurdle here with not a huge amount between most of these. Jessber’s Dream has probably the strongest form on offer but she will have to concede weight to all bar one of her rivals which will not be easy. At the prices a chance is taken on the race fit Miss Crick at 6.8. Third in a listed event over 2 miles last time she was outpaced at a crucial stage before staying back on for a close third at the line. She steps into unknown territory at 3 miles today but has previously shown good form over intermediate trips which will give her supporters confidence.
TRUST THEATRE TO ‘TERN OVER DJARKALIN
12.40 Ludlow This looks a two horse race on paper with Djarkalin and Tintern Theatre showing smart form over hurdles already but preference is for Nigel Twiston Davis’ charge to get his head in front. He ran a promising race on his rules debut when third in a better quality event at Aintree and can be expected to step forward here. An early show of 2.58 looks fair value.
MILLIE’S CAN KISS RIVALS GOODBYE
2.25 Chelmsford Only four declared for this nursery but a competitive race with Acertwo and Alice’s Dream both looking for a hat-trick of wins. However the selection goes to Millie’s Kiss on her handicap debut. Philip McBride does well with his two-year-olds and this filly looked to be improving when keeping on well for second last time. She step up a furlong in trip here and could be capable of capitalising on a mark of 75. At 3.7 in the BETDAQ orange she looks the bet.
