DAQMAN SPEEDS BACK INTO THE WINNER-A-DAY GROOVE: Daqman, who landed a winner a day – in fact, six in four days – on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday last week, was back in the groove yesterday when Velocidad (WON 85-40) went clear in the Group-2 sprint.

HOW DO YOU COMPARE THE CLASSIC WINNERS? Today Daqman checks out a decade of Derby heroes, how they compare, and tomorrow revises his Fortune Cookies, which are currently striking at 50%.

THE YEAR OF THE GOLDEN DERBYS

As good as it gets. This year’s Derby winners at Epsom and the Curragh are among the best in the last decade.

Adayar, who won at Epsom, rates alongside Golden Horn, while Hurricane Lane, well behind him in third that day, more than redeemed himself in the Irish Derby.

The Hurricane, who lost both front shoes at Epsom, showed that his stamina and power on a flatter track put him only a pound behind Australia and 2lb behind Camelot of previous Irish Derby winners.

Winners of the two Derbys in the decade are listed below with the Epsom winner and his revised rating first, followed by the Curragh winner and his revised rating after the Irish Derby.

All ratings are official after each Derby, except the 2021 winners, whose ratings are Daqman’s estimate:

2021 Adayar 126> Hurricane Lane 122 Charlie Appleby/Charlie Appleby
2020 Serpentine 120> Santiago 115 Aidan O’Brien/Aidan O’Brien
2019 Anthony Van Dyck 118 > Sovereign 118 Aidan O’Brien/Aidan O’Brien
2018 Masar 121> Latrobe 115 Charlie Appeby/Joseph O’Brien
2017 Wings Of Eagles 120> Capri 120 Aidan O’Brien/Aidan O’Brien
2016 Harzand 123> Harzand 123 Dermot Weld/Dermot Weld
2015 Golden Horn 126> Jack Hobbs 123 John Gosden/John Gosden
2014 Australia 123> Australia 123 Aidan O’Brien/Aidan O’Brien
2013 Ruler Of The World 120> Trading Leather 118 Aidan O’Brien/Jim Bolger
2012 Camelot 124> Camelot 124 Aidan O’Brien/Aidan O’Brien

LUISA SHOULD LOVE LINGFIELD

⭕ 1.45 Lingfield The rain is back – well it’s Wimbledon so what do you expect? There are plenty of non runners at both Lingfield and Windsor where the ground is now soft.

Luisa Casati looks the percentage call here in a race which looks much easier with the defection of the forecast favourite Raise The Roof.

She ran a big race at Newbury two starts ago when despite finishing 6th of 9 was only beaten a length in a blanket finish.

She also proved she could cope with more testing conditions last time out at Windsor when fourth to Zuraig and over the same trip today could take some beating. Hector Crouch riding today is a big plus given his new found confidence from his Royal Ascot win.

Angels Landing is the obvious danger judged by the BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE market.  The Ian Williams trained runner shaped well at Newbury on debut when fourth and now steps up in trip but faces vastly different ground. It was good to firm at Newbury so this will seem a lot more demanding for her than simply a step up of two furlongs.

The remaining four would need to show huge improvement from what they have shown.

FAUSTUS FOR ME

⭕ 3.15 Lingfield Faustus could be the answer to this five furlong handicap for trainer Robert Cowell

Soft ground shouldn’t be an inconvenience – he was runner-up on soft ground at Windsor over the minimum trip last year.

He comes into this on the back of a big run at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago (on good to soft). That came in a class 2 so he is down a full three rungs on the class ladder!

Most of these look well within the grip of the handicapper, notably Stake Acclaim who has finished runner-up in his last four starts but has still got no relief in the weights.

PUNCHING ABOVE HIS (TOP) WEIGHT

⭕ 7.00 Windsor A really good class 2 handicap despite five non runners at the time of writing.

Punchbowl Flyer could be worth another chance given he is a course, distance and ground winner.

He ran with huge credit in the Wokingham – leading his side home on the stands side but they were no match for the far side. Needless to say this is much easier.

DAQMAN’S BETS (staked to win 10 points)
BET 8.0pts win (nap) LUISA CASATI (1.45 Lingfield)
BET 3.4pts win FAUTUS (3.15 Lingfield)
BET 3.7pts win PUNCHBOWL FLYER (7.00 Windsor)

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
