MINER CAN MAKE IT A DOUBLE

2.30 Plumpton The Tin Miner is 31232 on this course in the last year or so, including success in this race but excluding his failed foray into the marathon Sussex National.

Uallrightharry’s CD win was only last month. It was in a novice chase but he goes for a hat-trick this afternoon after also scoring at Fontwell at senior level.

Two Plumpton CD wins were part of a hat-trick for The Lion Dancer in the Spring but a total weights rise of 26lb finally caught him out and he’s been rested since.

Cheque En Blanc was a long way behind The Tin Miner in this last year but, either side of that, won twice on the course over an additional three furlongs.

Tzar De Elfe’s bridesmaid sequence this year of 22223 includes two seconds and a third over today’s CD on varied ground, from good to heavy.

The only stables in the race showing recent winning form are Jamie Snowden (Tractor Fred is a modest maiden) and Chris Gordon (The Tin Miner at 7.2 on BETDAQ this morning) and, since I fancy a Gordon for me in the very next race, I shall bet that one of them scores for him.

MIO MY! VICENZO A 7.0 GIFT

3.00 Plumpton Either one of the Plumpton CD winners, Shimba Hills and Sixties Secret, could bounce back but both have been out of form for many months, with one win between them in more than two years.

Scrutinise was placed in a ladies’ race recently and has had double wind-ops since. Sadma won at Hereford but they rarely put back-to-back success together at this level.

It’s very poor stuff and, in such cases, often worth a bet on the top weight, who must have shown ‘something’ to be where he is in the handicap.

In fact, Vicenzo Mio has been dropped 7lb, is down a grade in class, and has been placed 15 times in 30 starts, so a 50% place strike-rate. That’s good enough for mio! So is the 7.0 on BETDAQ.

INNAMORARE IS TOO CLASSY

6.45 Wolverhampton (Ladbrokes Fillies’ Handicap) Not often you get a class-2 handicap at this time of year, and the near-£12,000 prize hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Gavin Cromwell is over from Ireland with just the one horse. He’s booked P J McDonald for Innamorare, who landed five wins out of eight races last year and was coaxed back to top form just 24 days ago at Dundalk.

Newmarket-trained Stay Classy was also a recent winner after crashing 16lb down the handicap, partly due to aiming at higher grades (one-time second in a Group 3).

Richard Spencer employs smart 7lb claimer Angus Villiers, who has had three winners – two of them for Spencer – in eight days.

Bubble And Squeak, an Ascot winner in May, has been trying to get some black type in a series of Listed races and should be thereabouts, but she has placed without winning in five AW attempts.
