7-2 COTTE COUP LANDED: Three winning days (84 points profit) rolled over into Sunday when Daqman warned that Unique De Cotte (WON 7-2) was the business for the opener at Cheltenham yesterday. But then it all went wrong in the mud, with seconds in two big races. Daqman starts the week:

BANKERS: 19 out of 25 (76%)
BULL’S- EYE BETS: 230 points profit
VALUE CHALLENGE: Daqman 1, Pricewise 2

HOT HORSES TO FOLLOW: Instead of his usual start-the-season lists, Daqman is going to pick up on form and collateral form to find hot horses that are poised for success. He finds one today.

BALBRIGGAN FORM IS DOUBLE FRANKED

The Badger Beer turned bitter. But punters who lost out on the disqualification of The Young Master at Wincanton nine days ago are advised not to tear out the page and consider it all best forgotten.

The first day of the Cheltenham Open on Friday put The Young Master’s form back into the spotlight when Charingworth easily won the amateur-riders’ chase

Charingworth had run up to The Young Master at Cheltenham a month back and it’s the third horse that day, who was giving them both weight, that interests me, now that the form has been franked twice by the front two.

Balbriggan finished third off 11st 12lb and his chance if tried at a higher level may be gauged by the 10st he gets in the Ladbrokes Troytown Chase next Sunday.

Trainer Gordon Elliott has made a quiet start to the season but Balbriggan sits exactly where the stats want him to for the Navan feature.

Balbriggan has won again since that Cheltenham race, so that he’s three out of four. Yet there he is in the Troytown right down the foot of the handicap off 121.

Whether or not Gordon Elliott will be tempted, the gelding is the winningmost age (seven), within the winningmost ratings parameter and below the weights ceiling for 80% of Troytown winners (10st 9lb).

If Gordon holds on to him, this ‘beautiful jumper’ (quote unquote Racing Post form) will wait instead for the PP Chase at Leopardstown in December.

TROUBLE COULD BE AN EXCITING CHASER

Overall it’s not the best of racing today.  Although there are three horses that I’m very much looking forward to seeing today.

Deputy Dan takes on Far West in a Novice Chase at Plumpton with both making more than adequate debut’s over fences a couple of weeks back. Both horses look set to be more successful over Fences and this should be a good match up. Also at Plumpton, More Buck’s, makes his debut over Hurdles. After winning first time out in a Bumper, he looked like being a horse to follow, however he wasn’t able to follow up next time out but should have more to come over hurdles.

Over at Leicester, Deep Trouble makes his chasing debut and I think he could potentially be a very good chaser. He absolutely demolished a very decent field in the big Handicap Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival having run creditably at the Cheltenham Festival and in his runs prior to that last season. Although he has his quirks, over two miles, he could be very hard to stop in today’s race despite having opposition like Thomas Crapper and Three Kingdoms.

Earlier on the card at Leicester, Buddy Love should be able to make the most of an appealing Handicap mark along with a valuable 10 pound claim from his young rider, Jamie Bargary.

He steps up in trip to two miles and seven furlongs, which shouldn’t be a problem as he shaped in previous runs as though further would be better. Although there is a question mark over the ground for the Twiston-Davies trained gelding, he looks to be well enough handicapped to be able to combat that and he think he can take the 1.45.

At 2.20, 11 runners go to post for a Handicap Hurdle over two miles and on paper this looks to be quite competitive but I am finding it hard to see past Mystery Drama for Alan King and Wayne Hutchinson.

At Plumpton, there are two that are of interest to me this afternoon.

In the 2.30, the two and a half mile Handicap Chase is quite a competitive looking race despite having just the 5 runners.

Cabimas is the likely favourite having won with relative ease last time out and the form has been franked. However, a 10lb hike may have been harsh and I’m looking towards the Caroline Keevil trained Midnight Lira.

She finished just a half a length off Jewellery last time out at Exeter with the winner going on to score again and I think there could be a little more in the tank off 113 today with James Best on board.

The Nap for today runs at 3.30 with the most solid option of the 9 runner field coming with Little Boy Boru. The ground and trip all look ideal for the son of Brian Boru and he can provide Harry Bannister with another winner having scored on the big stage last Friday at Cheltenham.
