9-2 AND 9-2 MAKE A WEEKEND PAIR: Two 9-2 strikes kept the Daqman winners bandwagon on the road over the weekend, and today he reflects on two controversial races from Uttoxeter on Sunday – one he was on the wrong side of.

WON 9-2 FLAVIUS TITUS (Sunday)
WON 9-2 GARFIELD SHADOW (Saturday)

DAQMAN v THE REST: IT’S UNEQUAL: Khaadem (WON 14-1) and Unequal Love (WON 12-1) were just two big shouts for Daqman at Royal Ascot in June. There are bull’s-eye bets like those for Goodwood this week.

JUST 1.01 OF THOSE THINGS

I am sure Daqman isn’t the only one but have you ever ‘watched’ a race live by looking at the in-play odds on the Betdaq app?

I did yesterday for my first selection Battle Of Omdurman in the opener at Uttoxeter who hit the basement price of 1.01 and when that disappears it means they have won – doesn’t it ???

Well sadly not yesterday as Torrent unleashed a late surge to come past at 33/1 and really spoil the party. They get beat at 1.01 – the odds tell you that but it’s a 100/1 ‘winner’ I’d rather not have found.

I turned to twitter straight after the race to find out what the hell had happened (that’s the semi-polite version) only to find plenty of abuse for jockey Chris Ward.

I watched the race later expecting a horror show but even with my biased eyes didn’t feel he did an awful lot wrong. Or at least not enough to merit the outrage.

Lesson being in racing, just as in life, don’t be swayed by what you see/read online – make up your own mind and trust your own eyes even when you are apparently in the minority. It was just 1.01 of those things 🙁

There was even more controversy in the second race at Uttoxeter where the result was unfathomably changed from a dead-heat in favour of an outright win for the 9/4 jolly Get Up Mush.

I’ve watched the race multiple times and read the rather clumsy and convoluted explanation – none of it makes sense and I can only think connections of the second – 66/1 chance Flic Ou Voyou will get their share of the win back if they appeal, as they should.

HE’S NO ROGUE

⭕ 6.15 Southwell There was never any doubting Silvestre De Sousa’s ability but he has been riding like a man possessed since returning to the UK with his sheer strength in the saddle working wonders.

He has a good chance in the final race at Southwell with Rogue King who can defy top weight and a hike of 6lb for his win at Wolverhampton. When you add into the mix that SDS is taking over from 5lb claimer Sean D Bowen the weight rise might not be that significant.

The visor which seemed to help at Wolverhampton when applied for the first time is back on and he followed that effort up with a second over hurdles to Battle Of Omdurman grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr [EDITOR: let it rest Daqman!] at Stratford so certainly won’t be lacking in the stamina department.

The clear danger has to be the Sir Mark Prescott trained Heat Of Passion who is up in trip for her handicap debut and obviously worth keeping an eye on in the Betdaq Betting Exchange.

The early market signs weren’t especially positive but a lot can happen between now and race time.

TEEING UP TWO

⭕ 7.10 Galway The week long Festival starts tonight with this ultra competitive 20 runner Connacht Hotel Handicap the feature on the card.

My two against the field are Lot Of Joy and Enfranchise but I’ll start with a word on the well-backed Teed Up who bids to follow up his win last year off a 7lb higher mark.

It was heavy last year and yielding tonight and so far at least Teed Up hasn’t been in the same kind of form he was on the build up to Galway and indeed Galway week itself last year when he went on to follow-up over hurdles later in the week!

I prefer the current form of the selections and I’m backing both to win 20 points. Lot Of Joy was sent off favourite for last year’s Newmarket Cesarewitch but could only finish 11th, however the Willie Mullins trained runner had the perfect prep for this when finishing a close-up third in a valuable Curragh handicap last month.

Equally, Enfranchise arrives in good form. In her case a win at Gowran where she popped up in a Listed contest at a nibbled at 16/1.

LISTENING TO LIPSINK

⭕ 8.10 Windsor On a day when I’m keeping the punting powder fairly dry, mindful of the week ahead, I’ll take a chance with Lipsink as the day’s nap.

Like so many others before him, Mick Appleby has found improvement after a stable switch.  Oisin Murphy takes over from Ali Rawlinson who has ridden him in his first three starts for the yard finishing 123.

The key tonight though is more the drop back in trip to the minimum – he has plenty of early speed and just been struggling to see out the six.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.

Did you know? DAQMAN’s tips are posted each and every day so he’s always on hand to help with your horse racing betting.
