PRIDE (WON 9-2) COMES BEFORE A FALL: Daqman started well yesterday when he landed Flora’s Pride (WON 9-2) but fell for a lay on the gamble of the day, Quapriland (WON evens).

BETDAQ-SPONSORED KEMPTON CARD: Today he eyes Nicky Henderson and spots Tony McCoy switching from a McManus horse. His outsider at 18.0 is in one of the Betdaq-sponsored races at Kempton Park.

Watch that market, Daqman: it’s not telling porkies! I bet like a pig idiot yesterday: too many horses in my bets list, too careless of the BETDAQ market, which was a strong indicator. So let’s be mindful of the early punts today.

Alan King features in the stats, as successful in three of the Newbury races, while Nicky Henderson has strong claims on his local course.

12.15 Newbury Henderson is five out of six in this, but his Amoralist, gelded for hurdles without so much as a run, was comparatively easy to back behind the odds-on Swynmor.

12.50 Newbury They didn’t want to know Honest John, trained by Steve ‘Local Hero’ Gollings, but that makes him a back-and-lay proposition, destined to be shorter in running than the 6.2 I saw this morning, since he likes to lead.

Handy Andy seemed sure to start favourite, having shown a real liking for Newbury and expected to improve for this step up in trip.

1.20 Newbury The winner of this maiden is a horse to follow. Of the last nine successful, seven scored next time out, two were second, with some sharp names among them, notably Oscar Whisky.

Honours are even, 3-3, in the decade between Nicky Henderson (Snake Eyes) and Alan King (Arabian Heights and Fair Trade).

Sandwiched between Snake Eyes and the King first-string, Fair Trade, in the BETDAQ market was the pattern-level Flat horse Poet, also gelded for his hurdles debut, but making a belated appearance over obstacles at age seven. Only one horse older than five has won this in the decade.

Snake Eyes let the market down last time out but Henderson still thinks he’s a horse of huge potential, and is Tony McCoy’s only ride for the boss J P McManus.

1.40 Ludlow Venetia Williams has won this twice in the last five years and the course-and-distance winner Drumshambo should again give a good account. Indications are that he’s still a bit in front of the handicapper.

1.50 Newbury McCoy has permission from J P to swerve Amuse Me in favour of the same stable’s Ballinroab for Trevor Hemmings. This morning’s 5.3 on BETDAQ looked about right.

2.25 Newbury David O’Meara and Jake Greenall are 2-2 with Rose Of The Moon but Restless Harry was pressing them strongly in the BETDAQ orange this morning.

2.45 Ludlow A class-3 handicap but a class-4 field, with the possible exception of Howards Legacy. He may have ‘bounced’ at Newbury after his Ffos Las win first time back, and he’s unexposed stepped up to 3m.

3.00 Newbury McCoy rides for Hemmings again aboard first-timer Billing in a race of winners and he’s any price this morning. But it’s also a race of question-marks.

Can Cocktails At Dawn (Henderson) show that his Points fall was a blip? Will Royal Guardsman operate as well for Susan Nock as he did for Coilin Tizzard? Risky race.

3.55 Kempton (Win Big With Betdaq Multiples Nursery) The form of Midnight Dream’s Wolver win has been franked by the losers, and he here faces surprise winners (one at 100-1) and exposed horses in Marmot Bay and Modern Lady on his handicap debut.

4.25 Kempton (Back Or Lay At betdaq.com Handicap) Sporting Gold kept good company in the Spring but could not match them; maybe his mind was on other things and, gelded now, is first time in a handicap for Roger Varian.

4.55 Kempton (Betdaq Mobile Apps Handicap) Sprinters take turns to win and, at handicap level 4, I’d be tempted to swerve those who scored last time; it’s rare to get the breaks two races running in this grade, and just as rare to take them.

I’ve played only picture cards so far, and been mindful of the market. But I’ll try a wild card here with course-specialist Island Legend, given an early Christmas box by the handicapper: he’s dropped him 6lb in as many weeks and he’s 18.0 this morning. Robert Winston’s only mount of the day.
