DAQMAN’S SATURDAY BULL’S-EYE BETS: Daqman picks out the four best Saturday races, which gave him bull’s-eye targets this morning at a wide range of BETDAQ offers at Newcastle and the Curragh: 25.0, 15.5, 9.0. 8.3, 4.9. His nap is at York.
TOMORROW: the Irish Derby stats and form guide.
GIBSIDE IS AT HIS BEST
⭕ 2.40 Newcastle (Northumberland Vase) This is a repeat clash of the 1-3-4 in the Chester Plate, which was over two furlongs further.
The winner Gibside is up in the weights but his last two runs, including that one, have been the best of his career. Artisan Dancer and Dreams Adozen third and fourth at Chester.
Gibside’s trainer, Tim Easterby, has just hit a streak of form (4-6 up including a Thursday double here at Newcastle). Betdaq Betting Exchange 25.0 this morning was far too big (3.5 four places).
Jim Goldie has booked Paul Mulrennan for Humble Spark to try to hold Gibside: they were second and third at Haydock, when stepped up together to today’s class 2.
Sir Mark Prescott doesn’t often get a sequence horse these days but Godsend (9.0 offers) deserves a crack at this better contest after four in a row at class 4 and 6, carried over from last summer to a small-field winning start to 2025 at Nottingham last month.
Contacto is up 20lb with two wins and two seconds since last Spring, seemingly poised for better things, still only four. BETDAQ 4.9
DOCK AND DUKE ONE-TWO
⭕ 3.15 Newcastle (Northumberland Plate) Seasoned stayers do best: five of the last six winners have been aged six or over. Last eight winners by stall 13, 11, 7, 17, 17, 10, 14, 12.
1: Duke Of Oxford (stall 12 ) Third in this last year has his trainer, Michael Bell, in better form this season and 7lb-claimer Taryn Langley doing well. Weighted to get revenge on Onesmoothoperator (7), last year’s winner, now drawn low.
2: East India Dock (14) Triumph Hurdle third (Pappano pulled up 150-1) and Chester Cup winner, he was unphased by an 8lb hike for that success, beaten only in the last 100 yards in the marathon Ascot Stakes but can hit a flat spot and has avoided AW since 2yo days. Pappano is in the one stall today.
3: Manxman (20) lasted until the final furlong in that Ascot Stakes, after being beaten a nose in the Cesarewitch. Drawn wide.
4: Who’s Glen (19) fifth in the Chester Cup and now 8lb better off with East India Dock. Lightly raced. Drawn wide.
5: Golden Rules (11) second in the 2023 Plate when not clear run. Raced only once (at Kempton in March) since then. Have they got him right for a big hit?
6: Tribal Star (6) runner-up here in the AW Marathon in April, getting a stone from Duke Of Oxford fourth, with Roaring Legend (10) sixth, but a return to front-running tactics might not suit in this field.
Betdaq Betting Exchange 7.1 East India Dock, 8.3 Tribal Star, 15.5 Duke Of Oxford
WHIRL WEIGHTS PICK
⭕ 3.30 Curragh (Pretty Polly Stakes) Aidan O’Brien’s last winning three-year-old, Minding, followed up from the Epsom Oaks and won this off 120, frightening away all bar four four-year-olds.
Bluestocking last year faced seven other older fillies off 115 and made it a stepping stone to Arc victory. Before that 110, 114 and 115 rated won.
Today’s field is looking moderate outside Whirl (113) and Kalpana (118), the Fillies And Mares Champion at Ascot last October and (not clear run) close up to the frontline battle between Los Angeles and Anmaat in the Tattersalls Gold Cup here in late May.
Musidora winner Whirl had a similar battle with Aidan O’Brien stablemate Minnie Hauk in the Epsom Oaks. Will appreciate this drop back in trip, and gets 12lb from Kalpana.
Survive was a winner and placed at Group-2 level last year and has started the same way this.
But (Fortune Cookie) Wemighttakedelongway is thought capable of improvement down in trip after her fourth in the Epsom Oaks.
LAKE’S FORM IS DEEP
⭕ TODAY’S NAP (2.25 York): We are following the Royal Ascot losers, and the first of them, Lake Forest, is also the first nap in the new brand of Fortune Cookie.
Beat Lazzat in the Golden Eagle at Rosehill in November and just two runs since, fifth the last day behind Docklands and Rosallion in the Group-1 Queen Anne. This is two grades lower, yet 2.48 offers on BETDAQ this morning.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
