SUPERNAP HONOURS FOR THREE OUT OF FOUR: Another Daqman supernap paid for most of Saturday and eased the pain of four seconds and thirds at bigger odds. The winner made it three winning naps from the last four.
WON 10-11 FLYING HONOURS (Saturday supernap)
WON 5-2 TAMARAMA (Thursday nap)
WON 1-1 LIBER POWER (Wednesday nap)
CLASS WILL OUT IN WELSH CHAMPION HURDLE: Daqmanâs Sunday Dewhurst wrap revises the two-year-old ratings which he started in the week. Then he looks for value at Goodwood and picks the class horse in the Welsh Champion Hurdle.
TOMORROW: Champions Day countdown begins
CHALDEAN KEEPS IT IN THE FAMILY
Like fathers like sons. Chaldean, son of 2010 Dewhurst winner Frankel, won yesterdayâs 147-year-old Dewhurst renewal, trained by Andrew Balding, whose father, Ian, saddled Mill Reef to win the race in 1970 on the way to a famous Derby victory.
Yesterdayâs race was without the 2,000 Guineas favourite, Sakheer, and the big son of Kingman, Sir Michael Stouteâs Nostrum, carrying the first colours of Chaldeanâs owners, looked more like a colt for next year’s Derby, a one-paced third in the fast time.
Chaldean, on the other hand, moved to the front of the market when his imposing stature was seen in the paddock and to the front of the race fully six furlongs out under Frankie Dettori, enjoying his control of the Rowley mile track on a potential Guineas star of 2023.
It was another flying leap for Frankie and a leap up the ratings for Chaldean, whose time was good and who must now closely challenge Little Big Bear.
Silver Knott followed subsequent Guineas winner Coroebus in taking the Autumn Stakes, completing a quick double for Charlie Appleby after his Flying Honours strode away with the opening two-year-old Group-3, the Zetland. The coltsâ ratings are potentially revised to:
Three-year-old colts of 2023
124 LITTLE BIG BEAR (Aidan OâBrien) by No Nay Never
120 CHALDEAN (Andrew Balding) by Frankel
115 AL RIFFA (Joseph OâBrien) by Wootton Bassett
Commissioning became Team Gosdenâs sixth winner of the Fillies Mile on Friday and first Group-1 for Frankieâs best mate Robert Havlin after 31 years in the saddle. The filliesâ ratings are potentially revised to:
Three-year-old fillies of 2023
118 TAHIYRA (Dermot Weld) by Siyouni
114 COMMISSIONING (Team Gosden) by Kingman
114 LEZOO (Ralph Beckett) by Zoustar
BEACH BEST ON THE FAHEY TIDE
â 2.50 Southwell Richard Fahey is having a great weekend, celebrating success in the Oh So Sharp Stakes on Friday with Midnight Mile and the Sprint Trophy at York yesterday with Strike Red; 22-1 and 12-1 strikes.
Both Libertus and the Fahey runner, Phoenix Beach, were winners over the CD here at Southwell in August from vital low draws.
The differences between them today may be that James Fanshawe (Libertus) has been missing strike (0-11 including three favourites), while Fahey is on fire. And that Phoenix Beach has the one stall while Libertus is out in gate 10.
In fact, Macchiavello, fourth to Libertus in August, might turn him over today, better off at the weights and coming out of stall 2.
Betdaq Betting Exchange 5 Phoenix Beach
STAR VALUE FOR A REPEAT WIN
â 3.00 Goodwood William Buick is here to clock up the winners but Hugo Palmer, trainer of his mount in this, Lovely Breeze, has hit a bad patch with 1-27, his recent SPs in keeping with it (11-1, 14-1, 16-1, 25-1 even 80-1).
Chiefofchiefs, who has been campaigning over 7f, is now 6lb lower than when fifth here in the 6f Stewards Cup, though itâs a worry that this rear runner is coming out of the one stall.
Dora Penny is higher in the handicap and higher in grade, and Marshal Dan has done most of his racing over 7f.
It was in this race a year ago that Spanish Star became a CD winner on the soft, and Tom Marquand is booked for a repeat bid today, which suggests he has been laid out for the race again.
BETDAQ value 5.5 Spanish Star
EMINENCY FORM MULTI-FRANKED
â 3.35 Goodwood Team Johnston is 2-31 and no longer the automatic choice to run everything else into the ground here at Goodwood.
So I shall put Benacre alongside Hugo Palmerâs Salutre as one from a stable to be wary of at this time.
Chartwell House must be a bit of a thinker, winning well in first-time hood at Epsom but disappointing in the same headgear the last day. Will this switch to a visor help? Kiss N Cuddle is also wearing âblindsâ for the first time.
It could be Eminencyâs day. The grey beat Chartwell House a neck at levels in July, racing prominently.
I imagine heâll play a positive role in this small field; itâs altogether a different ball game to the big field at Doncaster for a ÂŁ300,000 Sales prize when he was held up.
That proved to be his undoing; denied a clear run and finished fifth. Should at least have been in the frame, from which winner, second, third and fourth have all won since.
BETDAQ value 3.5 Eminency
BETDAQ 5.3 CHAMPION FORTUNE
â 3.10 Ffos Las (Welsh Champion Hurdle) Last yearâs winner, Glory And Fortune, is back at the double, 19lb higher.
He moved into the big time after this win: second in the Christmas Hurdle; winner of the big February hurdle at Newbury; not disgraced, fifth in the Champion Hurdle.
Glory And Fortune goes well fresh and could have too much class for the wannabees at the bottom of the handicap, Gin Coco and Effernock Fizz.
BETDAQ value 5.3 Glory And Fortune
