DAQMAN RACES 8-1 UP ON PRICEWISE IN TV TRIPLE STRIKE: Daqman took an 8-1 lead, 270 points clear of Pricewise, in their value challenge yesterday, with three winners from four terrestrially-televised races, taking him to 95 points profit against Pricewise (Racing Post) 175 points loss (to 10-point level stakes at SP). For the second day running his Guineas bet was a late-finishing second at double-figure odds.

JOHNSTON CAN TAKE THE BOUQUET

⭕ 2.00 Doncaster Richard Hannon comes to this off a strike rate of 3-6, with Embour (BETDAQ 7.6) having had a run back. Sixth in the Portland here.

⭕ 2.20 Goodwood (Cathedral Stakes) Team Hannon has won this Listed six times in 12 years, and Moyassar – well drawn in stall 2 – is clear in the ratings. But just 1-9 on turf, which may explain why ‘he’ has been gelded.

Three-year-olds have won three times in four seasons and Mrs Bouquet completed a July hat-trick at Goodwood for the master trainer here, Mark Johnson when, as today, she was in one of the higher stalls.

Open Wide has had five chances at his local track, his best effort when runner-up in the Stewards Cup. He was also placed in big-field sprints at Windsor and Ascot.

Wise Counsel’s handicap successes have come at 7f and he would need it soft to make an impression at this 6f at level weights. I took 4.5 offers on BETDAQ for Mrs Bouquet.

⭕ 2.35 Doncaster Trainer Michael Dods is struggling at 2-31; not one of his sprinters has won, which is a worry for backers of Dakota Gold, already a Listed winner but who needed a run to get off the mark last term.

John Quinn is 1-20 and his target for El Astronaute is a Curragh Group-2 in July in which he was second last year.

Tarboosh and Copper Knight (Tim Easterby, BETDAQ 5.3) are close together on form but Paul Midgley (also runs previous winner of this, Final Venture) hasn’t had a winner for 101 days.

Copper Knight, close second at Newmarket last weekend, can make his fitness tell, with Listed winner at Ayr, Lady In France, a danger from a stable in form, though penalised and without a run back.

PAYMENT DUE AGAIN BACK TO BACK

⭕ 3.00 Leopardstown (Levmoss Stakes) This race remembers Arc and Gold Cup winner, Levmoss, trained by the great Seamus McGrath.

Those of you who have been picking your way through the minefield of big-field maidens and late, late trial races, might remember his words: ‘First time out, the horse belongs to me; after that, he belongs to the public.’

The Levmoss Stakes has had famous ‘publicly owned’ winners, like dual scorer Vinnie Roe (Dermot Weld) and hat-trick hero Order Of St George (Aidan O’Brien).

Could 3.25 BETDAQ favourite Twilight Payment make it back-to-back wins for Joseph O’Brien and join their ranks?

Well, it’s only a Listed race and, after he won it last year (for Jim Bolger), Twilight had to prove himself in the light of day and did so, gamely overpowering the previous year’s Irish Derby winner, Latrobe, in the Group-2 Curragh Cup.

Falcon Eight was less than a length off Twilight Payment in the Levmoss last year but Dermot Weld (0-16) hasn’t had a Flat winner for 224 days (43 losers in that time).

Barbados has won only his maiden – always a bad sign – and is an Aidan O’Brien cast-off. Trossachs is a handicapper up high in the weights and with nowhere else to go.

MARQUAND SAT ON A GOOD THING?

⭕ 3.55 Goodwood (Cocked Hat Stakes) The race that Troy won (when it was the Predominate Stakes) on the way to his tremendous Derby ride from the great Scot, William Hunter Carson.

In truth Willie gave us all heart attacks as he was hemmed in, seventh on the rail, after entering the straight in 13th place, before pulling out and translating that seventh into seven lengths clear at the line.

As a result, I named my first house, Troy House, and thought I had a clear run myself until the (first) wife nicked it. Knocked into a cocked hat, I was.

Best Cocked Hat winner since was probably Masked Marvel, who won the 2011 St Leger for John Gosden, five times a winner of this race in 12 years.

Celestran steps up from handicaps to try to make it six, though the Kingman colt Emissary has bags of stamina, and 8.3 BETDAQ offer Khalifa Sat – already a Goodwood winner – was backed with bookies last night as if the race is a formality for Andrew Balding and Tom Marquand.

GAVIN’S PRINCESS ON WAY BACK

⭕ 4.10 Leopardstown (Noblesse Stakes) Noblesse recalls Paddy Prendergast, master trainer of two-year-olds, who raided England with the filly as a juvenile, and twice more in her second season as winner of the Musidora and Epsom Oaks.

Gavin Cromwell tells Betdaq Tips readers that he has an ambitious plan laid out for Princess Yaiza, prepped for this at Dundalk after a lengthy absence, and the stable had a winner at the Curragh yesterday.

The Royallieu winner at the Longchamp Arc meeting in 2018 will hopefully be able to return to that level, with this Listed as another stepping-stone.

Princess Yaiza, hovering around 6.0 this morning, was second in the Ouster Stakes at Galway the year before Camphor did the same thing for Jessica Harrington last September.

Camphor was then third when Loveisthehigherlaw was fourth, threeparts of a length behind her, at Naas in October.

Heliac is a handicapper, a stone behind Princess Yaiza, and the exposed Fresnel has won only her maiden, always a bad sign.

The ‘hidden horse’ is a Dansili filly of Jim Bolger’s who has run green, lightly raced in soft-ground affairs so far. Bolger is out of form (1-29) but keep an eye on Cerro Bayo.
