SUNDAY TREAT OF A GROUP-1 DOUBLE: France and Germany with Group-1 drama, a Summer Mile in Scotland and a chance for punters to jump to it in the English countryside. There are Sunday treats everywhere on the cards.

HOLIDAY ACTION ALL NEXT WEEK: Daqman sets the scene for more holiday action next week, leading up to the Newmarket July Meeting from Thursday with the July Cup and, at York, the John Smith’s Cup on Saturday.

O’BRIEN LEADING TRAINER

The last shall be first. Unable to get a position, Ryan Moore had to come from last to first with a devastating late run on Delacroix to win his third consecutive Eclipse yesterday.

The Sandown track favoured front-runners on the day which created a tactical Eclipse melee despite the small field.

It was Moore’s second Group-1 hat-trick inside a week after he landed the Irish Derby with Lambourn, backing up their all-the-way Epsom romp.

It’s O’Brien and Moore first the rest nowhere again, with O’Brien now ahead in the English trainers’-earnings table over John and Thady Gosden, who were neck victims of that Delacroix finish yesterday with impressive Royal Ascot scorer Ombudsman.

Both Delacroix and The Lion In Winter had been made favourite for the Epsom Derby but finished 9th (14 lengths behind) and 14th (19 lengths behind) as Lambourn ran them all into the ground.

The Lion In Winter runs in the Prix Jean Prat at Deauville today: another Ballydoyle resurrection?

DERBY DAY FOR BURKE

⭕ 2.43 Hamburg (German Derby) Jockey Clifford Lee, who has won £528k with 20 winners for Karl Burke this year, has his chance of Classic glory and a £322k boost to his earnings wallet, when he rides Convergent.

Convergent cut out most of the running when third in the Chester Vase to the Epsom Derby one-two, Lambourn and Lazy Griff.

Betdaq Betting Exchange

⭕ 3.10 Market Rasen Charlie Longsdon, currently the hottest trainer over jumps in England, has course winner Stroll On By ready over hurdles, with the handicapper not yet feeding in any of his 11lb chase-ratings hike.

KEANE’S COSMIC YEAR

⭕ 3.40 Deauville (Prix Jean Prat) Shadow of Light (119) is clear top for Charlie Appleby today after his Middle Park and Dewhurst double and length third in the 2,000 Guineas behind Ruling Court, just half a length off the runner-up, late finisher Field Of Gold.

Cosmic Year runs off 115 but his second to Field Of Gold in the Irish Guineas is arguably better, as Field Of Gold was impressive that day.

Maranoa Charlie, Silius and Woodshauna were 1-2-3 over the CD here at Deauville in the Prix Djebel in the Spring with the form confirmed by the same one-two at Longchamp last month.

The Lion In Winter (O’Brien-Moore) is the enigma of the race: once boasting a 124 rating, he has slumped to 113 after failing to reach the frame in the Dante and 28 lengths behind Lambourn in the Derby.

It’s another great day for the Irish but more likely for their champion jockey Colin Keane riding for Juddmonte on Cosmic Year, already a hat-trick winner over 7f.
